“So, you hid around listening to our plans,” Kai whispered. “And then you betrayed us.”
“The entire army is waiting for the resistance now,” Kevin said, laughing. “Say goodbye to everything you held dear!”
Kai grinded his teeth in fury before giving a fear-inducing growl. He had to get out of here and save his Lilly, and he would do everything he could! Without a single thought, he lunged into battle as the three bears instantly surrounded him. He roared one last time and clashed with his opponents.
Chapter 18
Kai ran through the streets as fast as his weak body would let him. The fight with the bears had left his body broken and completely injured. Every step sent a wave of agony through his body. The battle had been so brutal that Kai had to shift into a human at the end of it. His leg was once again torn, and he could barely run with it. All he knew was that they had been betrayed and his Lilly was fighting for her life.
Kai had never felt so panicked and lost before. He knew where to go because he had visited Rio once with Jake for a business meeting. He didn’t care if he died, as long as he managed to save Lilly and the resistance. His hands were covered in blood from the gruesome battle. He could still feel the way Kevin’s bones had crushed under his jaw.
The huge mansion appeared in front of him and he tried to run. His legs refused to cooperate, and he stumbled and fell as he tried to make his way through the streets. He spotted the curly-haired man getting into a limousine and he increased his pace.
“Rio!” he shouted. “Rio!”
A second later he was picked up by a pair of brawny hands as Rio’s bodyguard restrained him.
“Don’t move!” the guard shouted.
“No! Let me go! Rio!” Kai shouted, feeling a wave of desperation. His Lilly. His beautiful Lilly. He couldn’t lose her. “I need your help! They are dying! They are all dying.”
A second later, the man stepped out of the car. He looked impeccable in his fitted suit and expensive shoes.
“You are one of Jake’s men,” Rio said, taking a puff of his cigar. “I remember seeing you once.”
“The Rain clan.” Kai gasped out. “They have attacked the human villages in the valley of Merida! They are slaughtering them! They will all die.”
Rio took another drag of his cigar, staring at Kai with calculating eyes.
“The humans decided to fight them,” Kai said. “They will kill them all. Every one of them. Please.”
“I believe you,” Rio said. “I know the Rain clan has been doing something foul, but I am not sure I want to interfere. I am sorry, but this is a battle that I don’t want to risk.”
“You can’t do this!” Kai shouted. “They are being massacred! They are all dying one by one! Those shifters are torturing and killing anyone who stands in their way! Please! Don’t do this. You are my only hope!”
Rio stood there; his face impassive as he stared at Kai. He took another drag of his cigar and Kai’s heart sunk. He had failed his Lilly.
Lilly was starting to get tired as the battle dragged on and on. She could see Brian and Helen fighting next to her, but she could tell that even they were reaching their limits. She would finally manage to down one bear, only to find another attacking her. She was slowly starting to loose all home that they will ever win.
She saw a bear rearing its great head as he noticed her. He started to run toward her, its wide jaw open and ready to rip her apart. Lilly knew that she should move but her will to live had left her. She sat there, waiting for her death to come.
The bear never managed to reach her. Just a second later, another huge bear tackled her opponent and threw it to the ground. Lilly stood up, her heart beating fast. Her savior looked up and his bright green eyes looked deep into her.
“Kai?” she whispered. A thundering sound rang through the battlefield and she turned around to see hundreds of bears running through the battlefield.
“I got help,” Kai said.
Lilly collapsed on her knees once again. They were saved.

“Where are you taking me?” Lilly whispered, as Kai dragged her through the forest. The battle had long since ended, and now everyone was celebrating their much-awaited freedom. Brian was still busy thanking Rio for his help, and the two of them had retrieved to the conference room to discuss matters.
“Just come with me,” He said, pulling her deeper into the forest. She followed him through the thick, dense trees before she finally noticed light peeking through the trees. She frowned, as she tried to figure out what was happening. Kai pushed the branches that blocked their way, and the next thing she knew, she stood in the most beautiful clearing she had ever seen.
Flowers bloomed all around it, and even under the moon light, the place looked magical. The air was filled with the smell of roses, as fireflies shone in the night.
“This is beautiful,” She whispered, looking around in awe.
