Kai opened his mouth to explain, but he never got the words out, because the next minute Kevin appeared through the trees. He was clearly very drunk, and he stumbled as he walked. Kai slowly hid the pup behind him, his body tensing in anticipation.
“I was wondering where you had disappeared, you bitch!” Kevin snarled, reaching forward to grab her and pull her to her feet. “Should have known that you would be here with this bastard! You slut! Going behind my back and fucking him? You filthy whore!”
Kai instantly got up to his feet, stumbling as he did so. His leg gave another painful twinge, but he ignored it.
“Control your language,” Kai growled, unable to stop the fury that was bubbling through him.
“Or what? You going to shift into a fucking bear and hit me? You think the resistance is going to accept you after that?” Kevin said, laughing. “They will fucking hang you for hurting one of their own.”
“Let her go!” Kai snarled; his eyes wide in anger. The only reason he hadn’t already lunged at him was that he was trying to hide Elisabeth behind him.
“Make me!” Kevin shouted. Kai almost jumped, but he restrained himself when Lilly shouted.
“No!” she shouted. “Don’t worry about me! I can handle him! Just keep her safe!”
“Come with me, you wench!” Kevin roared, dragging her away. Kai knew that he should listen to Lilly and restrain himself. But he couldn’t. No one will ever hurt his Lilly again.
Chapter 11
Lilly watched in horror as Kai jumped on Kevin. She knew that Kai wouldn't hesitate to kill him, and as much as she hated Kevin, this wasn’t the right way.
“No!” Lilly shouted. “Kai just forget it!”
She watched as Kai furiously started to beat up Kevin. Even in his injured state, he was a force to be reckoned with. Lilly tried to pull him off, but Kai pushed her away before resuming throwing punches. Kevin was bleeding profusely, and Lilly could see that he was seriously injured. If she didn’t stop Kai, he would beat him to death.
Lilly grabbed Kai, managing to hang on even as he tried to push her off.
“Kai, please,” she said. “I am begging you. Enough!”
Kai finally let go of Kevin, who fell to the ground severely beaten and bruised.
“You won’t get away with this,” Kevin said between gasps of pain. “I will get you back for this!”
“Just try, you bastard!” Kai roared, grabbing him by the collar.
“Kai!” Lilly shouted. “Let him go! Take Elisabeth and go back to the hospital! I will handle Kevin.”
She could see Kai debating between beating Kevin to a pulp or doing as she said. Finally, he let go of Kevin and turned around to grab the baby before limping off. Lilly sighed as Kevin stumbled, trying to get up. She grabbed him as he tried to go after Kai, shouting curses and abuses.
This was going to be a long night.

“Now this bear is attacking one of our own?” Ursula said, slamming her hands down on the table. “It was your decision to free him and bring him here, Brian.”
“Lilly just told you that he did it to defend her. He was being abusive toward her,” Brian said.
“You can’t excuse him for this! If Lilly was having such problems, she should have come to us! We would have punished him! If we let this go, that Bear will think that he has a free pass to pass judgment and punish whoever he sees fit!” Ursula said.
“He was doing it to save her!” Brian said. “We can’t forget that he has been very helpful so far.”
“How?” Ursula shouted. “I have never trusted a bear! I have only ever trusted my own kind!”
“She has a point,” Helen said. “We thought he would help us, but he has been too injured to do anything.”
“That’s not true,” Lilly said. “He protected me during the battle. Even though he knew that shifting and fighting would seriously hamper his healing, he still protected me. And when Elisabeth got lost, he went out of his way to find her. And when Kevin attacked me just now, he jumped in to keep me safe.”
She saw the council members exchanging glances with each other.
