Jake swallowed, not knowing what to say. She leaned forward, her eyes tearing up. “Why am I alone, Jake? Why?”

Jake didn’t know what to answer, he had nothing to say. He only knew one thing. A realization that dawned on him as he looked deep into her eyes- as he looked deep into her soul.

He had found his mate.

Chapter 10

Jazz

She didn’t what had brought it on. She didn’t know why she was baring her entire soul, all her insecurities to Jake. Ever since she had seen the death and pain the thief had caused, all she had felt was regret. Regret for what she agreed to do and regret that she couldn’t help.

Then, Jake did something completely unexpected. He pulled her close and hugged her. Jazz rested her head on his chest, her hands clenching his shirt. She closed her eyes, melting into the warmth of his soothing embrace. Usually, everything about him ignited a passion inside her. Right now, everything about him comforted her and soothed her, making her feel like she was at home.

“My father was a very difficult man,” Jake whispered. “He was cruel and tyrannical. He was ruthless and ruled this clan like a dictator. He believed in ruling with terror and fear. Everyone was so scared of him that they just submitted to his will.”

“I have heard of the cruel leader of the Akai clan,” Jazz said, looking at him.

“He was just as much a bad father as he was a clan leader,” Jake said. “He was abusive and controlling. Especially towards my mother, who he physically and emotionally abused. He tried to make me like him; he tried to make me just as aggressive and violent. My mother kept me sane. Every night she lay next to me and told me stories of compassion and kind-heartedness. Every night she made me promise that I would never become like my father.”

“She would be proud to know that you kept the promise,” Jazz said.

Jake gazed into her eyes and said, “Would she? I have failed my clan. I have failed to protect them and keep them safe. Many have been injured because of me because I couldn’t do my job as their leader. They trust me, and I broke their trust.”

Jazz put a hand on his cheek, making him look at her. “You did the best you could. I have known leaders who give orders and then sit behind as their soldiers wage their wars. You led them into battle, and you fought with them. Every step of the way, you were with them. Don’t blame yourself.”

Jake looked at her, not saying anything. He placed a finger on her chin and said, “Do you feel as I do? When you look at me, do you feel the way I feel when I look at you?”

“How do you feel when you look at me?” Jazz asked, breathlessly.

“Like you are some familiar soul that I met once in some dream,” Jake whispered, leaning closer to her.

“Like my bear knows your bear from some long-forgotten ancient times?” Jazz whispered, aware of how his muscles felt pressed against her body.

“Like souls that were once one before they were cruelly torn apart,” Jake whispered and then leaned over and kissed her.

Jazz kissed him back, feeling his firm lips kissing her passionately. He kissed her softly, placing small kisses again and again on her lips. Her hands started to trace his body, running over his chest. She felt his muscles rippling as she slowly traced her hands down.

His hands grazed her back, before hungrily passing onto her stomach. He kissed her with passion as he slowly slipped his tongue into her waiting mouth. Jazz moaned at the pleasure that shot through her body. His grazes left tingling sensations all over her skin. It felt like mini fireworks exploding on her skin.

His hands slowly started to unbutton her shirt as he deepened the kiss. As he unbuttoned the first button, his fingers traced over her collar bone. He slowly slipped his finger down to open the second button. His kisses trailed down as he softly kissed her chin.

He caressed her as his kisses trailed down her neck. He lightly licked and kissed, tasting the sweet taste of her silky-smooth skin. Jazz moaned as she intertwined her fingers through his hair. He kissed lower and lower, teasing her with butterfly kisses. He lightly licked her collarbone before trailing further down to her chest.

Jazz moaned softly as she closed her eyes, her skin alight with electrifying sensations that ran through her. His hands traced her back, slipping under her shirt. He traced the curves of her body, as he licked and kissed her skin. His lips found her cleavage, which he tasted with a fervor. His tongue slipped in between as he kissed and licked. His fingers unbuttoned the next button and her shirt opened, exposing her breasts.

He started to trail kisses down her chest, as his hands slowly traced upwards to unhook her bra. Jazz kept her eyes closed, as she enjoyed the thrilling waves of excitement that pulsated through her. She felt his lips on her breasts and she moaned, completely oblivious to the fact that the guards outside might hear her.

Then Jake suddenly stopped. Surprised and disappointed at the sudden loss of pleasure, she opened her eyes. She found him looking at her stomach, frozen.

The realization dawned on her too late. She had forgotten about the tattoo of oath on her stomach, and Jake was looking right at it.

She had a feeling that she might be in big trouble.

Chapter 12

Jazz

The door burst open and Jazz looked up to see Jake running in.
