This time it hit Dominque in the chest, and he fell back, feeling severe pain spread through his body. He felt too weak to even move, when his eyes fell on Isabella. Purely through will power, he got up and started walking toward Luther again.
Luther gave a short laugh and sent another beam towards Dominque, who managed to dodge it, but the next one hit him again. He fell backwards, but forced his body to move again. He couldn’t give up.
“What? Why don’t you stay down?” Luther shouted.
“Because my Isabella wouldn’t. She would survive on pure will power, but she would never give up,” Dominque said, snarling.
“Then, like her, you die as well!” Luther shouted, and sent another beam blasting towards Dominque. It never hit Dominque though, because at that moment the mayor stepped in front, holding his shield. He resisted Luther’s attack, pushing back to the best of his capabilities.
Dominque heard a howl and turned to see the wolves rushing straight towards Luther, who started blasting them. Then there was a shout and the humans started to rush him as well.
“What is this!” Luther shouted, enraged, trying to hit everyone, but he was outnumbered. The mayor also gave a war cry and rushed towards Luther. Dominque saw wolves and humans falling alike. The wolves could still withstand some of Luther’s power and got up again to battle him. The humans though, were too injured to even move.
Dominque forced his body up; he was the leader of his pack. He would fight with them to the very end. He ran towards Luther again, howling. The wolves joined him, howling with him. They ran towards him, Luther blasting beams left and right, but the wolves were quick on their feet. They dodged them. Dominque managed to reach him this time and slashed his stomach. Luther let out a cry of pain before throwing Dominque away with another beam.
Even though Luther was now bleeding, it was clear the necklace made him very powerful. He seemed to have the same abilities to withstand injuries as a wolf. The only way to finish him off was a blow to the heart, the head, or the neck.
Dominque forced his body to move. He was now so weak and injured, he knew that another blow like that would surely kill him. Yet, he still got up. He ran towards Luther, who was too outnumbered to shoot beams and had constructed a shield around him. Nevertheless, Dominque lunged, and he did something he had only read of but never succeeded of doing.
He imagined the wolf inside him and concentrated it, molding it. He collected whatever power he had and then he projected it. He projected it straight towards Luther’s shield. He felt the power rush through him and hit the shield. There was a battle of power between the two, and then the shield shattered.
“You! Stay down!” Luther shouted, his eyes wide with fury. He raised his hand to deliver a blow to Dominque, who was now too weak to dodge. Yet again, the beam never reached him. Instead, Luther gave a blood curdling scream as a knife pierced his chest. The mayor had managed to sneak behind him when Luther was distracted by Dominque. The moment the shield shattered, he took his silver dagger and pierced Luther, straight through his heart.
Luther collapsed, his eyes wide and vacant, a pool of blood spreading through his chest. The mayor walked over to Dominque and looked him in the eye. “I think it’s time we become friends,” he said.
Dominque looked back at him and then bowed. “Yes. I think it is.”
Epilogue
Isabella woke up in her bed, her head resting on Dominque’s chest. Dominque’s arm was around her, holding her close. Isabella sighed, looking up at his handsome face.
Over a month had passed since the battle, and the pack was slowly healing. Elder Lawson had managed to get to her in time, to save her from dying from the silver poisoning. Dominque, on the other hand, was in critical condition for over a week. He was so ill that there was a time when everyone had prepared for his demise.
Isabella felt her heart wrench as she remembered that painful time. She still remembered when Dominque had opened his eyes, after a week of being unconscious. She had been sitting beside him when he opened his beautiful eyes and softly moaned her name.
She almost burst into tears. Elder Lawson told him that he needed to be on strict bed rest, and that as fast as he was at healing, even his body was about to give up. Taylor thankfully recovered as well.
The pack numbers dwindled again, but those that remained were healing, getting stronger day by day. The human pup was back with his parents, and his tearful mother had thanked Isabella repeatedly for looking after him.
Isabella pulled herself away from her memories and softly caressed Dominque’s cheek. “Wake up,” she whispered.
Dominque groaned and pulled her into a tighter hug. Isabella gave a small laugh and softly kissed his lips. “Wake up, sleepy head. You have a meeting with the mayor,” she whispered again.
Dominque gave another groan and then opened his eyes. “Hello, beautiful,” he said, softly kissing her forehead.
Isabella felt such a rush of love for him that she started to shower his face in kisses. Dominque gave a short laugh and said, “Hey! What did I do to deserve so much love?”
“You made my soul happy,” Isabella whispered. Dominque raised an eyebrow and suddenly flipped her over, starting to trail kisses down her chest.“Dominque!” Isabella gasped, as Dominque started to lick her smooth skin. They were interrupted by a knock on the door and Taylor’s booming voice.
“Dominque. It is getting late, man. The humans are waiting,” he shouted. Dominque groaned and got up.
“I swear, I am gonna fire Taylor. Always interrupting when things are getting good,” he said. Isabella laughed and kissed his cheek.
“Go get them, tiger,” she said. Dominque sighed and then spanking her butt lightly, left to get dressed.

Dominque sat at the table, with the mayor and his council. His own friends and council members sat with him, waiting for the mayor to speak.
