Where am I?She was starting to panic, but it would be useless. Nobody could hear her even if she were to scream at the top of her lungs. Instead, she quietly sat in one corner and tried to remember the last encounter she had before passing out. The only thing she could recall was the blonde woman who knew Brandon.
Is she a wolf?Allison shivered at her thought. The weeks she spent together with Brandon had gone smoothly, making her believe that everything was turning out to be fine – that she was safe. But Brandon was right: one wrong decision and their lives were in danger. And there she was – alone in a freezing cold and dark room.
As much as she wanted to think of a way to escape, Allison thought it was useless. She didn’t have any superhuman powers to destroy neither the brick walls nor the steel doors. Hugging her knees, Allison felt tears streaming down her cheeks. She was feeling a mixture of fear, frustration, and worry. If she was kidnapped, what had happened to Brandon? Where would he be right now? What was he planning? Had he been taken as well?
No,she shook her head. Brandon was strong enough to protect himself. They couldn’t hurt him. And she believed that he’d come looking for her. A few more moments passed. Allison focused on conserving her energy.
I need to be strong. This could be my chance to find out what happened to Dad. I need to be alert.
It wasn’t long before she saw light illuminating the dark room. The steel doors creaked open, revealing white five-inch heels.
Her heart raced when a beautiful brunette woman emerged from the other side of the steel doors. Despite the dim lighting, Allison could see the resemblance they had. The woman had the same Italian features like hers. And if it weren’t for her overly large eyes, they could be mistaken as sisters.
Who are you? Allison wanted to ask, but she was choking on her own saliva.
“Well, well, you must have been shocked, dear cousin.” The woman spoke in a high-pitched voice. Her grin was mocking as she stared down at her.
Cousin?
“I’m Mariella. I had pretty much the same reaction when I saw you for the first time. We look like each other, don’t you agree?”
“Where’s my dad? You know where he is, right?” she asked in a quivering voice. They were so alike that it was starting to bother her a lot. But she needed answers.
“Your father?” Mariella chuckled, taking a few steps closer to her. She yanked Allison’s hair to level their gazes. “Don’t worry. He’s safe.”
Allison let out a deep sigh before speaking up again. She felt relieved. Questions about her father had been haunting her all these weeks. And now she finally had an answer.
Her father was alive… But both of them were in danger.
“Why are you doing this?” Allison hissed, gathering all the courage she had left. Rising from the cold concrete floors, Allison stood up and balanced herself on wobbly knees. She was still dizzy.
Mariella raised both of her hands in the air before giving her a mocking grin. “You’re asking all the questions. But I think I deserve to get some answers too,” She leaned on the steel doors and looked at her. “Where’s mymate?”
“Mate?I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Allison replied, confused.
“Where’s Clint?” Mariella questioned, glaring at her with gritted teeth.
“Who’s Clint?” Allison swore she saw a glint of red flash in her cousin’s eyes when she said that. Did she say something wrong?
“I don’t want to make this more complicated, dear cousin. Clint is mymate. He’s mine. No matter how many times you sleep with him in his human form. His wolf is mine.”
With that, Allison felt as if a bucket of cold water splashed all over her weakened body. Did she mean Brandon? Why was she calling him Clint?
Mate? What the fuck is a mate?
“I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Allison heard her voice croak, and her mouth twitched.
“In human words, it means we’reengaged,” Mariella informed her, confirming the realization she had in her mind.
No.
Allison fell silent to think. Brandon was engaged. And she slept with him. Worse, she had fallen for a man who belongs to someone else.
No…
“Clint and I had a bit of misunderstanding before he left the pack. He’s too loyal to your father. I did not understand why he had to leave me,” Mariella shrugged. “But he’s always like that. He decided on his own, thinking it was the best thing to do. But I couldn’t. I could never disobey my father.”
Mariella smiled bitterly. “He told me that it was going to be alright as long as we stayed on the right path, and we supported and believed each other. But he left without saying goodbye.”
