“Alli, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk. Just eat,” he urged her once again.
Allison shook her head and rolled to the other side of the bed, turning away from him. It was like talking to a lifeless thing. She was pale and weak. And what scared him the most was the empty expression in her eyes.
Releasing a deep breath, he stood up from the stool, carrying the tray he brought with him.
“Tell me…” she spoke, making him stop on the spot.
“Anything you want to know,” he said, turning around to see her face. He sat back on the stool and placed the tray on the bedside table. “Anything. Everything. Just ask.”
“What was he like?” she murmured. “I mean, my dad. What was he like in his wolf form?” His mouth curled into a smile as he watched the Alpha’s daughter. His mind was trying to pick the proper words to describe the older man.
“He was big, taller, stronger, and more ferocious than any other wolf. His fur was pitch black. And you could never see him during the night. But he had these glowing eyes…”
“They were gray,” Allison said, finishing his last sentence. “I’ve always wanted eyes like his.”
“Marco told me that you took after your mother,” he smiled. “He was a good leader. He wanted to make peace with humans. And over the years he ruled over the pack, he made a rule never to attack a human and never hunt outside Wakerlin woods. He wanted co-existence.”
“H-he wanted to keep me safe,” she mumbled, tears finally escaping her eyes.
“You and your mother,” he corrected.
“So, my mother is alive?” she grumbled.
“Your father didn’t want you to go looking for your mom. He wanted to keep you both away - because it was best. You are both safer without each other.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, confused.
“Your mother is human. And so are you. A lot of wolves didn’t like the idea of having connections with humans because they think humans are weak and helpless creatures.” he explained.
“You mean my Uncle Borris and his group didn’t like it,” she spoke through gritted teeth.
He nodded. “But since your father was the Alpha, they didn’t have a choice but to follow his orders. Or else they’d be banished.” He released a deep sigh. “Your father thought Borris had changed. So he kept him in the pack. He also figured he shouldn’t be allowed to go to the outside world. Borris is feral, and he doesn’t care about anyone but himself and his daughter, Mariella,” he explained, wincing when he mentioned the she-wolf’s name.
“And so they killed him…” Allison grumbled.
“Borris always wanted to get whatever your father had. He was always jealous of your dad because he was weaker. And the Alpha was strong. His motives were purely selfless.”
“Is he my dad’s brother?”
“No, he’s from a branch family. He is your dad’s second cousin, but your dad loved him like a brother.”
She nodded in response and fell quiet for several minutes.
Feeling like he needed to give her some solitude, Brandon rose from his seat and took the tray back in his hands.
“Just leave it there,” he heard Allison's sweet voice. “I’ll eat,” she said, smiling.
Oh, how I’ve missed seeing her smile.Allison Farkas was the prettiest woman he had ever seen, especially when she was happy. She had the most beautiful pair of chocolate brown eyes he had ever seen. And her lips were naturally red. She had a cute face, yet sexy and alluring. Above all her perfect physical looks, Brandon found Allison more attractive because of her wits. She was smart, and wise. And he thought that was the sexiest part of her.
He had been gradually falling for her. She was everything he wanted, but he knew he couldn’t have. She was the Alpha’s daughter. Most importantly, he was a wolf, and she was human. And he was her bodyguard. All he could do was watch and protect her.
But what if she’s a wolf?his mind asked, as his feet led him back to the empty kitchen.
She’s human, and I’m not going to let her live a life she doesn’t want.
You’ll never know.
Impossible,he thought.
