“Okay, man, I understand,” he says. “But I need to trust that you won’t…” he clears his throat.
“Kill him?” I ask, scoffing.
“Yes.”
I close my eyes and nod. “You can trust me.”I hope I can trust myself.
“I think I should stay with her,” Benedikt suggests.
“It’ll be three of us against one of him,” I shrug. “And I know I’d feel better if she weren’t alone.”
“She’s really stressed about this whole thing, so I agree. Ben, if you’re happy to stay, that’ll give us all peace of mind,” Kaz says.
“We’re taking backup anyway. Aren’t we?” I ask. “He might have guards around him.”
“He does, two men,” Joe nods. “We’ll take four guys. I don’t want more than that because I’d like to keep this as clean as quick as possible.”
After detailing the plan, we get into the car and head to South Beach.
I’ve waited for this day for so long.
I can’t believe this is finally happening.
It looks like being in this alliance paid off in more ways than one.
We wait near South Beach while Joe’s men track Misha.
Misha leaves the cafe and heads to his car. Two of Joe’s guys follow him, keeping us in the loop on where to go until Misha heads away from a populated area towards the docks. We turn off, speeding up as we drive to catch up with him.
“He’s probably going to one of our warhorses,” Kaz snarls.
“Ready?” Joe asks.
“Ready,” I nod.
My heart is beating heavily when Joe’s men pull in front of Misha and slam on the brakes. We’re right behind, and when he comes skidding to a stop, we block him from being able to reverse.
One man leaps from the car and opens fire. Joe takes him down with one shot.
Misha climbs out of the car next, keeping his hands in the air.
“Hello, gentleman,” he sneers.
I rush at him and body slam him to the ground. Just because he’s feigning surrender doesn’t mean he hasn’t got something up his sleeve.
I’m not taking any chances.
Cuffing him, I lift him off his feet and drag him to the trunk of our car and throw him in.
We all pile back into the car, and Joe shouts to his men, “Clean this up, get his car off the road.”
It doesn’t take us long to get to the warehouse. Kaz and I drag Misha downstairs to the underground area, where no one will hear his screams. I secure him to a chair that is bolted to the floor.
I’ve done this all before in my life.
I’ve beaten men for information.
I’ve done what I had to do to get to where I am.
