I rolled my eyes at that. It was worse than the pot calling the kettle black for my father to insinuate anyone was more of a monster than he was. Still, I continued to read because it sounded as though he was gearing up to threaten Logan.

Your young man has caused a lot of problems for me since he stole you from your engagement party last night. Not the least of which was when he killed your fiancé this morning. It would be a shame if this video was leaked to New York City’s finest in blue. It might even make the rounds with the media, or more importantly, on social media where he could be triedin the court of public opinion first. He and his brothers attract so much attention normally, this video would go viral in no time at all.

You’re probably asking yourself if you can stop this from happening and the answer is yes. All you have to do is come see me of your own free will. Walk right out of his building, get into the car parked at the curb, and come home to me. If you do that, I will destroy the evidence of your former best friend murdering your fiancé in cold blood.

Love,

Dad

My stomach turned over and if there had been anything in it, I would have made a mess on Logan’s couch. My father was worse than a monster. I pulled the video up and watched as Logan held a gun to Drew’s head. He smacked him with it at one point. There wasn’t any audio to hear, but I could imagine he had questions. It was obvious that my name change had been the catalyst for my father, and in turn Drew, to find me. I wasn’t sure what more there was to question my ex about, but none of that mattered. At the very end, the audio finally picked up and I heard my former lover speak.

“She was worth the wait. That pussy of hers was so fucking tight on my cock. I only ever took her hard and rough, treated her like the whore she was.” He took a minute to spit out what looked like blood and maybe even a tooth. “I fucked that tight ass of hers, too. She doesn’t have a virgin spot left on her tight little body, bitch. I took them all.”

I rolled my eyes once again. I’d never given my ass to anyone and Drew certainly hadn’t been my first. That would have made me a thirty-two year old virgin, considering we met just before my last birthday.

“Don’t worry, though. I won’t be her last.”

“That’s one thing you’re right about,” Logan said to him as Drew started to laugh.

“My men will take her. They’ll turn her out, make her one of the family’s whores. She’ll be used up and discarded one day and her corpse will be shoved in the same filthy hole as her father’s and yours.”

Logan raised his arm, pulled the trigger, and I watched as Drew’s head snapped back with the impact of the bullet before he turned and I saw his face. He was calm, as if he hadn’t just killed anyone.

“He was full of shit.”

“Know that,” Logan told his Lucian.

“So why did you put the bullet in his brain?”

“He may have been full of shit, but we both saw that ring on her finger in the picture. She was with him.”

“You can’t kill every man who ever touched her. Contrary to what that asshole wanted you to believe, I doubt very seriously he was her first and only for anything.”

That was when emotion finally showed on Logan’s face. “I fucking know that. You don’t think it kills me to know she could have been only mine, but I fucked it all up? That’s not why I killed him. He lied to her, planned to trap her. She would have never been with him if she’d known he was and who he had ties to.”

“So you were what? Defending her honor?” Lucian chuckled and the video cut off there. When I closed the video, I was left staring at the email my father sent. I couldn’t allow it to fall into the wrong hands. Logan killed a man to defend my honor and keep me safe. The least I could do was return home to my father to make sure he and his brother didn’t end up rotting in prison somewhere or worse.

I tossed the phone down on the coffee table, went to borrow some sweatpants from Logan’s room, and walked barefoot out ofhis building and down into the car that my father had waiting for me. It was Logan who needed saving and I wouldn’t hesitate to make sure he was okay since I’d been the one to put him in that position to begin with.

Death

LOGAN

Building Alert: Woman seen leaving with no shoes.

There wasa picture of Aoife in my sweatpants and the t-shirt I gave her the night before. She was leaving the building and then another picture showed her getting into a black sedan that was parked outside the front entryway.

“Why weren’t we notified about this car?” I asked as we entered the building. “And why am I getting this alert now? It’s obviously been delayed.”

“I didn’t get a security alert at all,” Lucian mentioned as he glanced down at his phone.

“You wouldn’t. This was an alert I had set up specifically about Aoife this morning before I left. I wanted to know if she tried to leave at any point. The alert should have been immediate, though.”

“That’s something for you to figure out later. Go check your place. I’ll find Miles.”

I took off for my apartment. It wasn’t as though I hadn’t see Aoife leave with my own two eyes, but I had to believe thatmaybe the fucking cameras missed her coming back in. That, or maybe she left a hint about where she had gone, especially since she hadn’t been wearing any fucking shoes in December. For fuck’s sake, I hadn’t even thought ahead to get some clothes and shoes delivered for her knowing that she came back to my place in a dress and heels the night before.
