“So the gods are paying very close attention to me,” I said. “RIP Delaney alone time.”

He sniffed and wiped at his mouth again. “Okay, I’m still not happy with the situation, but, yeah, I know. The gods have been paying more attention.”

“Oh?”

“They have been all over the wedding plans, asking for timing, places, details. They weren’t nearly as pushy about it a few months back.”

“Shall we take it as a compliment?”

He chuckled. “Probably best.” He flicked off the hazard lights, put the truck in gear, and eased back onto the road.

“Sure you don’t want a greasy pub burger?” I asked.

His stomach growled, and dragon-pig in the back seat growled too. I chuckled.

“I think Chris has some nice rusted junk put aside for dragon-pig. I bet it would like a nibble.”

Itoinked, and I glanced back. It was doing the adorable baby pig thing, wagging its tiny curly tail, mouth open in a silly smile.

“See?” I said. “It’s starving.”

“When isn’t it starving?”

“You’re hungry too. Let’s get a burger, and I’ll steal your fries.”

He squinted at the road. “Fine. But we’re ordering you your own fries.”

“Even better.”

Jump Off Jack’s was our local award-winning microbrewery, and the man behind it was Chris Lagon, our local gilman.

The brewery was still open.

“To-go?” Ryder suggested.

Just the thought of going into a crowded bar made me tired. “Yes.”

“You wait here,” he said, unbuckling and giving me a fast kiss before opening the door. “I’ll be back.”

“Don’t forget snacks for dragon-pig,” I said.

“I got it.” He shut the door, and I watched him stroll into the building. Those legs. That ass.

“He is a fine looking man,” I said.

Dragon-pig grunted.

“I think I’m an awful lot in love with him.”

Dragon-pig grunted again.

“Don’t tell anyone, Dragon-pig, but I think I’m gonna marry him.”

Dragon-pig snorted, and smoke puffed into the air, filling the truck.

I grinned and rested my head against the seat. It was a good night, a quiet night, and the promise of Ryder and french fries was in my future.

What more could a girl want?
