“Always.”
“Andme?”
“I’ve always seen you,Jean.”
“As...what?”
“A woman. My world. Myhome.”
I exhaled hard, those words landing a direct hit to my heart. “Okay,” I said trying to get my emotional footing. I couldn’t address that. What he’d just said. I couldn’t take it straight on. It was too much. It meant too much. It meant we were more than six months and I wanted that so much, I didn’t want to ruin it, jinxit.
So I addressed the easierstuff.
“Um. Okay. We’re looking for a man. Not a man exactly. We’re looking for a jinni. His name isFaris.”
Hogan scrambled off the bed and stood so fast, I thought his foot was going to get tangled in the blankets. He pressed his back against the door to thehall.
“Why are you looking for him? What did hedo?”
Hogan’s eyes were too wide, his breathing tooshallow.
“Hey, hey,” I said. “It’s okay. Do you know him? Know who heis?”
Hogan swallowed hard and nodded. “He’s mydad.”
