I braced, expecting him to release a banshee screech, for his handsome face to suddenly split in half revealing a nightmarish mouth filled with teeth as he launched at me in rabid rage that I would issue such an outrageous demand.
To my shock, the terrifying glow instantly faded, his body relaxed, and his snarl melted into a smile. I gaped in disbelief as he made a beeline for what I believed was the broom closet. Seconds later he returned with the broom and got to work, starting at the front door.
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” I whispered, flabbergasted.
The distant sound of a voice startled me, and I realized that I’d been holding the phone by my hip, too shocked to remember I was having a conversation. I placed the phone back next to my ear.
“Is this shit for real?” I asked Sophia.
She chuckled. “Yep. That’s all Lidercs do. They work, acquire wealth for their masters, and fuck them into next week. You hit the jackpot!”
“This is madness!”
“No, girl. It’s freaking awesome. But I have to go,” Sophia replied. “I was just confirming that you had gotten Angie’s stuff out. We don’t want to get on Mrs. Hopkins’ bad side. But the wedding is starting.”
“How do I get rid of him?” I asked, panicked.
“You don’t! Just enjoy the best ride of your life,” Sophia replied in a singsong voice. “Talk to you later!”
Before I could speak another word, she hung up.
“Fuck my life,” I muttered, unsure what to do.
Taking a deep breath, I climbed back down the stairs to check up on my demon. The floors had not actually been particularly dirty as I took great pride in keeping my house clean. But he still managed to gather a notable amount of dust. As soon ashe noticed me, the peaceful expression on his face shifted to one of blatant disappointment.
“You got dressed,” he said in that disapproving tone I was starting to grow familiar with.
“Of course I did,” I replied with a hint of defiance.
“Way to ruin the view,” he muttered while continuing to thoroughly perform his chore.
I wanted to chastise him and probably should, too. However, I couldn’t deny feeling utterly flattered that he should find me so attractive. Then again, maybe it was just a matter of being annoyed by the extra obstacles to him getting what he wanted.
But he did comment about appreciating the view.
I immediately berated myself that my stupid mind would be dwelling over this nonsense instead of trying to solve my current predicament.
“You can stop cleaning the floor,” I said, still mortified that I even gave him that task to begin with.
To my shock, he glared at me as if I had just insulted him.
“Absolutely not! My task is not completed!”
I gaped at him, unsure how to respond to that.
“Oookay,” I said at last while he continued to move around, swiftly performing his task with impressive efficiency. “But you also need clothes. Except, I can’t walk you around town. People will freak out if they see a demon,” I added sheepishly.
He snorted with a slightly disdainful expression. “I’m a Liderc, remember? I can shift my appearance to whatever you want me to be. For example, like this.”
My jaw dropped as his skin appeared to melt almost as if he was a wax figure, and his entire body shifted. He gained a bit more body mass, with broader shoulders and thicker muscles. His original height—which I guessed to be around 6’4, grew slightly by a couple of inches. His charcoal skin shifted to the most scrumptious dark brown, a couple of shades darker than mine. He leveled hazel eyes on me sparkling with a victoriousglimmer as he smiled at me with the godly face that had featured prominently in many a raunchy dream.
“How did you know?” I whispered, dumbfounded.
He gave me a smug smirk. “Once again, it appears I must remind you that I’m a Liderc. I know every person’s deepest fantasies. How else am I supposed to please them?”
“Okay, TMI!” I said, raising my hands in an arresting gesture while shaking my head.
“TMI?” he echoed, tilting his head to the side with an inquisitive expression.
