This time, I couldn’t hold back my anger, which translated into a giant fiery flare. She gasped again, realizing that sticking around any longer wouldn’t be wise. Turning on her heel, she hurried towards the door to exit the workshop. Not wanting to let her escape so easily, I spread my flames into a fiery fist with which I slammed the door shut. Angelique yelped and stumbled a few steps back. Shock quickly gave way to fear as her mind processed what just happened.
As I shifted back into my demon form, I directed the flames to surround the foul woman with a fiery ring. She spun around and went pale when our eyes met. I didn’t need a mirror to see how terrifying I likely looked right this instant. When going into battle, each of my horns split into two, and vicious spikes covered them. More deadly spikes spread over my arms in parts of my body. My mouth widened and filled with countless nightmarish teeth that could pierce through metal and bones. But unlike during the sexy scenario with my woman, this time, far more spikes covered my body, and my face was even more nightmarish.
“What did I tell you, you stupid wench?” I growled in a menacing tone.
“You… you can’t be here!” Angelique stuttered, shaking her head in denial while taking a step back. “You left! I saw you leave with her!”
“And I came back when I felt your stench nearby,” I snarledwhile slowly advancing towards her. “Did I not warn you what would happen if you crossed my Mistress again?”
“I’m sorry! It was foolish of me. I was just hurt. I spent so many months and effort just trying to get your egg and then even more months trying to hatch you. Don’t you see how much I wanted you. Seeing you finally here and belonging to another made me lose my mind. I just wanted to have you. I’m sorry,” she said pleadingly while retreating as far as the flames behind her allowed.
“I don’t give a fuck what you want it. I told you what would happen if you tried anything ever again. Now, it is time for you to reap what you sowed.”
“NO!” she shouted, her voice shaking with fear. “Other than to feed, you are forbidden to harm humans!”
I waved a dismissive hand. “I am allowed to protect my Mistress from those who would harm her. You deliberately threatened her livelihood. Not only did you trespass her home, her safe haven with evil intent, but you also dared to defile her likeness with your glamour. REMOVE IT, you foul wench!” I shouted.
“I’m sorry!” Angie exclaimed, fumbling to cast the incantation to dispel the glamour. “Please, let me go. I promise never to cause harm again. I will take a blood oath to never interfere in your lives anymore.”
“Oh, you definitely won’t. I’m making sure of it. Permanently.”
“No! Mercy!”
True terror descended over her features when she saw the fiery streaks ignite beneath my skin, and my hands turned an angry shade of red as power built up, ready to be unleashed. By entering the house wearing Coral’s appearance, Angelique forfeited the one thing that could have protected her from my wrath. No one, no recording would show her entering this place.Once she went missing, there would be no tying her to my Mistress.
The foolish woman attempted to cast a protection spell—not that it could have done anything against me. She shrieked when blisters immediately formed over her hands and mouth as I countered her.
An evil chuckle tumbled out of my throat.
“Do you know what they do to evil witches, little Angelique?” I asked in a sickly-sweet voice. “They burn them at the stake. But in your case, maybe I should just drain you and use that extra energy to further elevate my Mistress. That would be poetic justice, don’t you think?”
Crying, Angelique begged and pleaded in an endless sputtering string of barely intelligible words through her blistered lips and tongue.
Although draining her would have indeed given me extra power to use to the benefit of my Coral, I wanted no part of Angie inside me in any shape or form.
“No one will miss you,” I said as two bolts of fire began to swirl above my open palms.
Just as I was about to unleash them on the wretched female, the workshop door burst open, startling us both.
“Liderc, stop!”
Stunned, I gaped at the elegant, older woman standing beyond the flames by the door.
How the fuck did I not feel her approach?
“Mrs. Hopkins!” Angie exclaimed, shock and hope filling her voice.
Chapter 9
Coral
Sitting in my car, utterly traumatized, I watched Vazul run into the alley, moments before a blue flame shot towards the sky. It flew by so fast, had I not been looking in that direction, I definitely would have missed it. You couldn’t even clearly see him as he flew towards the house. At best, it resembled a blur.
Although he told me to keep going, I didn’t want to drive away. A big fat pile of stinking poo was about to hit the fan. And I wanted to be there to keep things from escalating to the point of no return.
On instinct, I hopped out of the car and went to fetch the clothes he had discarded. I got back into my vehicle and drove to the nearest grocery store so that I could park without drawing too much attention. Just as I was entering the lot, my phone beeped with an incoming notification. Curious, I hurried to a free spot, put the car on park, then whipped out my phone.
My heart skipped a beat when I realized it was my front door camera alerting me to a person walking up to the door. I immediately turned on the camera feed on my phone. Seeing myself entering my own home freaked me out beyond words.Obviously, I understood that this was someone—most probably Angelique—using a glamour spell to emulate my likeness. But would she be so bold as to do the dirty work herself? Could she have conned, sweet talked, or coerced one of her sycophants to do the deed in her stead?
