“I mean leave the Pine Barrens, Lorelei. You’re not safe here.”

She took a step toward me. Foolish human. “Tell me why.”

I shrugged. “My father runs a cult.”

“Yeah, I kind of figured. It’s pretty obvious. The question is, what kind of cult?”

“The dangerous kind.”

Her mouth slanted with a frown. “Explain.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?” she huffed.

“Because you’re going to run your mouth to your mommy. And she’ll run her mouth to Ezra. And that’s going to blow my cover.”

“I won’t. If we have to leave, I’ll convince her to do it without telling her anything you tell me.

I leaned forward, the annoying distance between us shrinking. “Forget it.”

Her eyelids grew heavy, and her eyes glazed over with something that had me splitting apart on the inside with desire. My focus centered on her lips as her tongue flicked out, wetting them.

“I’ll fuck you if you tell me, Titus.”

Chapter Eight

Lore

Surpriseflickeredinhiseyes at first. Then, he turned from me briefly, pretending to busy himself in his tool box. He didn’t fool me though. He was rearranging his hard-on.

“Titus—”

Before I could make the offer again, he cut me off with a stiff, “Hell no.”

Disappointment and confusion hit me like a ton of bricks. “What do you mean, ‘no?’ It’s so fucking obvious. You’ve been hard-up for me since the second we met. So, just admit you want to fuck me.”

He spun around, pinning me with a brutal look that robbed all the air from my lungs. His heated glare wrinkled the scar covering a third of his face, giving him a severe look.

When I braved a step closer, he tensed and bared his teeth at me, almost like a feral dog warning me to keep my distance. “I want to do more than fuck you, Lore.”

Shit. It happened again. A cute little nickname for her came tumbling out of my mouth before I could swallow it back down. I’d just met this human and I was already getting attached.

I stopped in my tracks, sucking my lip between my teeth. “What do you mean?”

He almost looked pained from the way his brow creased. “I mean, there’s a part of me that wants to tear you apart.”

Tear me apart.

His voice was smooth as velvet, and as dark as sin.

“W-why?” I stammered, feeling the heat Tristan stoked inside me build, burning me up from the inside.

His jaw set, and his shoulders tensed. “Because you have something no one else in Bishop has.”

“My…virginity?”

The corners of his mouth lifted into the faintest smirk. “You’re so oblivious, it’s almost cute. In a pathetic kind of way. No. Not your virginity. Although, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in that too. I’m talking about your soul, baby.”
