“The type that emanates a purity, a raw goodness that attracts bad people like a moth to a flame. Or a devil to a virgin.”

Jess crossed her slender, toned arms over her chest and her nose crinkled.

“You’ve always been a little weird, Gabe. But you’re not making any sense. Sure, our Mel is good. Are there people who’d want to take advantage of her? Yeah. I get what you’re saying there. But that doesn’t explain why you won’t just fuck her already. And don’t give me that shit about how you’re not attracted to her. I’ve seen you pop more than a few stiffies staring at her, big boy, counting tonight. Though with how tasty she wrapped herself up tonight,” Jess let out a low wolf whistle, “I can’t blame you there. In fact, I’ll just bet she’s fending off all sorts of creeps right now trying to get a taste of all that ‘goodness.’” Jess gave a teasing grin, cackling to herself as she leaned over to pluck the cherry out of the cosmo and popped it in her mouth.

I open mine to admonish her for making light of a matter I stressed about literally every day of my life, but just then, her cell phone buzzed.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” she gasped, glancing at her phone with a furrowed brow.

“What is it?”

“It’s the hospital. I’ve got to go. Tell Mel I’msosorry and that we’ll meet up later if she’s down so I can make it up to her. Also, think about what I said, okay?”

Before I could say anything else, Jess had already disappeared into the throng of club-goers.

Think about what she said? What was I supposed to think about? Fucking Mel?

I was thankful Jess was gone because her interrogation shook me up more than I wanted to admit. My problem was, I needed tostopthinking about having intimate relations with my ward. It was becoming damn near impossible to think about anything else anymore. I wassoclose to just giving in to that nagging, incessant, horny animal inside me.

To hell with everything else.

My soul included.
