“What about Ken?”
She glanced at him.“You want me to Prime you to calm your ass down?I told him it’s a perfectly safe work trip to check in with Enforcers before I get too much further in my pregnancy. If he calls anyone, it’ll be me, and I’ll deal with it.”
“Yes, boss.”She could tell he still wasn’t comfortable with this.
And despite her aggravation, she didn’t blame him for feeling that way.She didn’t want to put any of her Enforcers in the middle of a squabble between her and Peyton or Ken, even if itwasa work-related squabble.
Technically.
At the hotel, Alvarez went through everything with Dewi, using his tablet to give his presentation.
“Do we know anything about the driver?”she asked.
“No.Not even his name,” he said.“He tends to hang out at a nearby cafe during the day while she’s at work. The same one Miranda Segura used to frequent.”
“Does Jacinta ever go there?”
“No.In the past two weeks, I have not seen her leave work during the day.She goes, works, and goes home. She either stops at the church in the morning or the evening, depending on her schedule, but it’s every day during the week. Then Sunday mass.If she goes anywhere else in the evening, Abundio is nearly always with her.”
“Doctor appointments?”
“I think she’s using an OB with an office on the third floor in the same building.”
“Okay. How long does she stay in the church during her weekday visits?”
“If she goes in the morning, not long.Just for confession because it’s not during a mass.In the afternoon or evening, she’ll stay longer, but usually less than an hour.”
“Does she ever meet with anyone there?”
“Sometimes a priest, and not always the same one.I hid a camera in there and can watch from close by.I worried it’d look suspicious for me to keep showing up at the exact same times if the driver is paying close attention.”
“Do we know if she carries?”She thumbed through dozens of pictures of the woman.
“I think she does. Those pictures don’t show it, but I’ve spotted a print several times. She sometimes has a larger purse that looks heavy.I would be shocked if she doesn’t carry, considering who she’s married to.”
Dewi sat back and closed her eyes to think for a moment. She didn’t have much of a time cushion. The faster she accomplished this errand, the easier her life would be, and the less obfuscation she’d need to engage in on the tail end.
That wasn’t her main consideration, but it was pretty damned high on her list.
“What’s the situation with her getting into and out of the car at work?Secure garage or open lot?”
“Parking garage. The public can access it, because it’s for the building. There’s an entrance directly to the ground-floor lobby, as well as an elevator to upper floors.”
“Security?”
“The building has security, but there are a bunch of various businesses on different floors where the public can go unrestricted.Their floor isn’t exclusive, either.”
“No card access required in the elevators?”
“Correct.”
She opened her eyes.“Meaning any member of the general public could step into that elevator with her?”
“In theory, yes.”
She arched an eyebrow at him.“Intheory? This isn’t quantum physics.Either the elevator exists, or it doesn’t.”
“I don’t know their surveillance system.I spotted a camera in that elevator car, none in the stairwell, many in the main lobby on the ground floor, one in each of the other elevators, and at least one in the lobby on their floor.I have taken the elevator to that floor and got out, like I was visiting one of the other businesses. But in the garage, the driver always lets her out of the car and walks her to the elevator. If someone were to approach, I suspect he’d stop them.”
