He laughs but I hear the pain in his voice. “I’ve had waaaay worse, pet. That was an easy fall. Not like I fell out of anairplaneand bounced off a mountain a few times or anything.”

“I’m going to have Jordan mummify you in bubble wrap.”

“Oooh. That sounds kinky, baby.”

I lean against my desk. “They’re getting the motorcade ready. I’ll see you there. From now on, you can fuck each other upstairs in the residence like normal pervs, and like all the presidential pervs who came before you.”

He starts laughing. Beside me, Casey-Marie snickers but doesn’t comment.

“It’s not the fucking I’m worried about,” Leo says. “It’s the sound of the spankings and the boy yelling.”

“You will suddenly take up playing the drums, or bagpipes, or something equally loud and obnoxious, and utilize the music room. It’s soundproofed. We’ll get the windows in the doors to the roof blacked out so no one can see inside.”

“Oh, hey. That’s a good idea.”

“Put Jordan on.Now.”

Another pained chuckle. “Love you, too, pet.”

I hear the phone get passed.

“Don’t chew him out too badly,” Jordan says. “The stairs were dark. And he tripped over his own pants.” He snorts and drops his voice. “I think that’s karma, considering the stripes he left all over my ass.”

“You stay with him, do you hear me? Donotleave his side. I don’t give a shit what the detail or doctors say—you stay with him. That’s a fucking order.”

“Don’t worry, I will. He swears he’s all right.”

“He blacked out!”

“Only for a second. Hey,I’mnot panicking. Anymore. That means you don’t need to panic, either, boy.”

I groan because if Jordan and Leo are on the same wavelength they’ll gang up on me to not worry.

And I definitely feel like Ishouldbe worried.

“Put Kev on.”

“Love you.”

I grumble. “Love you, too, Sir.”

“Here’s Kev.”

Kev comes on the line. “Good afternoon, Mister President.” He also sounds amused.

“You and Casey-Marie have control over spinning this.”

He laughs. “Already handled, sir. It’s all good.”

“How’d they get you there so fast?”

“I was in DC today. Perfect timing, actually. My meetings just wrapped and I was about to head home. I was less than five minutes from the townhouse when George called. So I stopped, grabbed some beers, a lightbulb, and takeout, and headed over. Jordan and George already had Leo sitting up on the couch when I arrived.”

I close my eyes and rub my forehead. “This is containable?”

“Completely. He’ll probably be discharged and home tonight once they run him through a CT scan. Minor embarrassment the late-night hosts will snicker over for a few days before the next shiny object distracts them. Better him than you. Like Leo said, at least he didn’t fall out of an airplane. They won’t ding him too hard. Especially given his service history.”

“Thanks, Kev. We owe you. And George. Please tell him I said that.”
