I fixed a bowl of cereal, and the second I sat down, I heard a loud crash that came from the window that was in the living room. Because of the area that I stayed, and me always feeling like I had to be guarded, I didn’t walk throughout my apartment without my gun on my hip.
I quickly rose from my chair, leaving the bowl of cereal down on the table, so that I could rush, and see what the fuck that was.
“Toby, what was that?” I heard Bash scream from the bathroom.
“Nothing! Stay in the bathroom. Don’t come out!” I yelled at him, gun in hand, ready to kill some shit.
Bullets started flying through the inside of the apartment, going everywhere, to the point that I had to duck down.
I was ducking, hiding behind Bash’s bed, trying to shoot back through the window that was busted because that’s where the bullets were coming through. I lifted my head up, so that I could get a clear shot, and the second I did that, a bullet flew in, popping me in my right shoulder, which caused the gun that I was holding in my hand to drop. I struggled to get the gun back in my hands. The pain that I was feeling in my shoulder had slowed me down a little bit.
“POW. POW. POW. POW,” it sounded like the 4thof July.
I reached for the gun, and once I had it, I leaned up a little bit again, so that I could get some better shots. As I was shooting back, I happened to tun my head, and I looked in the hallway, where Bash was standing, and tears were falling down his face. He looked scared out of his mind. The quick second that it took for me to look at him had me losing sight of what was going on, and that’s when I felt a bullet piercing through my chest.
The force, and the pressure of the bullet removed all the energy that I had left in my body, making me drop the gun, and my hand went for my chest, where I’d just been wounded.
Through weak eyes, I was able to look out, and I could see the figure standing right outside the window. They were dressed in all black with nothing on their body showing, but I knew who it was. I knew his built. I knew by the beanie that was on his head, which hid all his hair who it was. It was Rico.
There wasn’t any of his skin that was showing, that led me to believe that. I just knew. I knew it was him.
“Tell them… tell them… it was Rico,” I weakly said to Bash, and seconds later, bullets fired at me, popping me everywhere on my body, killing my instantly.
Silly ass nigga might have killed me, but he wasn’t going to get away with it because before I took my last breath, I made sure that Bash knew who was responsible for this shit.
I took that nigga’s football career away from him, and even in death, I was going to take away his freedom.
Chapter 19

Pee & See
“Okay, it’s the last night of our family cabin trip, and on the itinerary, I was put in charge of the last game night. Since we’ve been here, we’ve talked our shit, had a very competitive game of UNO, Spades, and everything else. We’ve taken a lot of shots, smoked some big blunts, but now it has come to the part of the trip where I want to spice things up, and play a game that we haven’t played before. The name of the game is called Pee & See,” Tommie said, as she stood in front of the room that myself, and all the other ladies were in.
I could already tell by the name of the game, and her having to oversee the game, that she was getting ready to piss me off. You just never knew what to expect from Tommie. She always had something up her sleeve.
We were down in the basement. We’d just got down here about ten minutes ago, ready to start our last ladies game night event of the trip. I was lying on one of the couches, resting on my back, with my head on the arm of the couch. Liberty was wide awake, so she was sitting where my pelvis was, and I was playing with her, bouncing her up and down, and she was making all kinds of baby noises, and laughing, loving what I was doing.
“See ma, I’m about to go back in my room. You just be doing stuff,” Tru said, with annoyance dripping from her voice, standing up from the couch.
“Girl hush. Sit down. You don’t even know the rules of the game yet. Give me a minute, so that I can explain them,” Tommie said to her daughter.
I found myself smiling, as I witnessed the interaction between Tommie and Tru. Those two had come such a long way. They used to go at it terribly. So much so, to the point that Tru had been staying with our mom at one point. Tommie had been one of those mothers for so long, where she allowed her daughters to do whatever they wanted to do, so Tru had taken the lack of guidance and discipline that she had and ran with it. She had gotten into some deep mess, working for a pimp who had her on the side of the street, but she wasn’t trickin though. Some type of crazy foot fetish that he had her doing, where she would hop in and out of cars with random men, and she said that all she said to do was show her feet, and she would get paid good money. Mind you, Tru was a minor when all of this was going down. This girl was coming around us with designer handbags, jewelry, the whole nine. That was a part of all our lives that was a mess, and I hated to even talk about it.

Tommie had a great relationship with her girls these days. You can always tell the change in her energy whenever she is around both her girls. With Tailynn in Georgia, attending college, and with Tru in college as well, and always working, she didn’t get to be up under them 24/7. These past few days that we’ve spent in this cabin, I knew that it meant a lot to Tommie for her to be up under both her girls.
“Tommie, hurry up and explain the rules to this game, girl. I’m letting you know right now that if it’s some crazy shit, I’mgoing back upstairs in my room to lay my ass down. It’s already been a long day, and I’m still sore from falling off that damn snowmobile,” my mom fussed, sitting there with an ice pack still on her knee.
I didn’t mean to laugh, but seeing my mama continue to flip off the snowmobile earlier today at one of our excursions had me in literal tears when it was happening. My mom was one of those people where she wanted to participate in all the activities. She didn’t care how old she was, and she shouldn’t because she was in perfect shape, with perfect health, so she could keep up, and do everything that we were doing.
My grandma on the other hand, she hadn’t participated in any of the excursions. My girl just came for the good views, cold weather, and to see the snow. She was getting all her rest, too. Even right now, as all the ladies were down in the basement, about to play whatever foolishness this was that Tommie had come up with, our grandma was in her room, and I’m sure she’d fallen asleep.
Tommie walked over to the table that was behind her, and she picked up a white, red, and gold Christmas gift bag. Once it was in her hands, she came back over, and dumped the contents out of the bag, onto the table. It was a bunch of pregnancy test.
“Tommie, what you got going on, girl? For real,” Free said, who was sitting right next to me on the couch.
