“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she insists.
“Don’t play dumb, Harper. It’s not as charming as you think.”
Then she laughs. “I don’t consider myself dumb, but I’m not acting, Kenzie. I honestly have no idea what you mean. How have I tried to sabotage you?”
“My bridesmaids’ dresses?”
“What about them?”
“You called and changed the color after we placed the order.”
She pouts. “I don’t know where you ordered them from. Orwhenyou ordered them.”
“My flowers were canceled. My centerpieces are broken or missing. The DJ was told the wedding was moved to a later date,” I say, crossing my arms tightly under my chest.
Her dress may fit like a glove, but I’ve got enough push up on my chest to give the Victoria Secret models a run for their money. People will not ignore me tonight.
She tilts her head in that classic confused Harper way, and it eats at me. She’s really going to play dumb?
“I didn’t do anything to any of those things. Not your dresses. Not the flowers. I had no idea you went with a DJ instead of a band. And how would I get your centerpieces?”
“How could she?” Ford interjects. “She hasn’t exactly been involved in planning the wedding you stole, Kenzie.”
Damn it, Ford, don’t defend her! I bristle, annoyed that no one seems willing to accuse her and force her to admit it. She really has everyone fooled.
“And don’t get me started on ruining your friendship with Asher,” I say, cocking my hip and raising an eyebrow.
“What are you talking about?” he asks.
“You don’t even care that Harper’s gotten between you and your best friend. She’s been so strategic that she got you to quit as his best man.”
Ford laughs. “Harper didn’t get between Asher and me.Ashergot between him and me.”
Jumping up, Asher points at them. “You don’t think it’s a convenient coincidence that she decided to sleep with you right before my wedding?”
Her eyes widen, and Ford stands, fists clenching at his sides. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Asher.”
“Like I can’t see a slutty attempt when it’s right in front of me. Look at who I’m marrying.”
I whip around to face him. “What did you just say?”
“That didn’t come out right.”
“How exactly was that supposed to come out?” Tracy asks. “Because it sounds pretty damn accurate to us.”
Alex nods in agreement, and I would slap them both if the main members of their families weren’t in the room with us. Traitors.
“She just wants to get back at me for moving on with someone I love more than her,” Asher says. “It’s so pathetic.”
That’s right. Tell her how much better I am than her. That someone can finally see it.
Everyone gasps, and Harper sits there, stunned. Finally, Harper’s about to get everything she deserves. And I love it.
Chapter 39
Ford
“She owes you nothing,” I growl at Asher. “And Harper’s with me because she wants to be.”
