I sigh heavily, still wondering how a comment about my secretary made me fly off the handle like that. I guess I’m not as in control with Grace as I have been with other women. Staying distant with them was easy. With Grace, it’s impossible.

I step aside, since I’m not going to hold her goddamn prisoner.

“Asshole,” she murmurs, running her fingers over her lips.

“Keep telling yourself you hate me,” I laugh darkly. “And I’ll keep trying to do the same, eh? But, sooner or later, we’re going to have to admit the truth.”

“Yeah, and what’s that?”

Embrace honesty.

“Nothing,” I sigh, walking over to my desk. “Don’t worry about it.”

I stop at the edge of the desk, my back turned to her. I hear her breathing loudly as she watches me. For a second, I think she’s going to say something. But then the door opens and closes.

After a beat, I hear her raised voice. “Oh, hey Adam, how’re you doing today?”

She’s playing games with me.

But then, I can’t blame her.

I’ve been playing games with her this whole time.
