“Good talk.”
He made his way upstairs to find Ava exactly where he had left her.
“Did I hear Marshal come into the bedroom?”
“Yeah, you did.”
She groaned.“What did he do?”
“He wants to move us in indefinitely.”
“I don’t think he knows how to take care of himself, and I believe he uses his wives to take care of it.”She shrugged.“That is all I’m going to say.Did you know he didn’t know where half the rooms were in the house?”
Knox laughed, and he shoved his pants down, and then climbed into the bath, moving in behind her.Ava moved forward, giving him space so he could join her.He really liked the fact she had been a virgin.
“It doesn’t surprise me.”
“I had to explore his home, and I was the one to take him on a tour, it was kind of sad, to be honest.”
He started to rub her shoulders.“But you got through it?”he asked.
“Of course.It was easy and I even drew him a map so he knew where he was going.”
This made him laugh.“You’re always in control.”
She snuggled back against him, and he placed his hands on her stomach.He’d not used any condoms.Ava made him go completely out of his own head, and he just acted.She could be pregnant.It only took one time.
Knox had never thought about being a dad.He was a killer.That was his job.He killed people for money.He was good at it as well, and it didn’t exactly leave time for family, relationships, or being a father.
The thought of Ava being heavily pregnant filled his head, and he liked the thought of her carrying his baby.She would make one hell of a mom.He had met plenty of moms that were not fit for the role.
“Did you ...fix your problem?”Ava asked.
“No, not yet.I’m still working on it.”
“Do you still believe it’s another bounty hunter?”
“Yes, that bank account was shut down, but my guy is working on the funds.Nowadays there is always a digital footprint.There is always something linking something.He’s just got to find it for me.”
“What’s your hunch?”Ava asked.
“Patricia offered a portion of Marshal’s fortune, even a small percentage is a lot of money.The man’s rich.”
“I couldn’t tell,” she said, and he heard the subtle tease in her voice.
“I’m guessing he’s coming after me, seeing as I’m the one that kept Marshal safe, and I also exposed her, so there wouldn’t be any money.If Marshal died now, there would be too much finger-pointing and shit like that.”He stroked her stomach, and he still couldn’t get the image of her pregnant out of his mind.“Why didn’t you tell me you were a virgin?”
“It didn’t come up,” Ava said.“And it’s not something you throw into a random conversation.Are you mad?”
“Not anymore.I promised I would never hurt you,” he said.
“And you still haven’t hurt me.”Ava spun around in the bath.“Don’t worry.I’m not in any kind of pain.”And she put a hand to his cheek, smiling up at him.“However, I do think we need to keep an eye on Marshal.”
