“You are one adorable bunny, but what do you need to tell daddy?”
“I’m out of pullups!” I bounced away. “Hoppity, hoppity, hop,” and sang as I bunny zoomied around their ginormous place. “Hippity hoppity Easter’s on its way!” I came to a screeching halt. “Daddy, isn’t Easter soon?”
“Yes, my silly Bunny, it is.”
“Daddy, daddy, daddy, guess what?” I squealed and did a happy dance. “Jobe hired me as his model!”
“That’s fantastic, Bunny. I guess everything in your world has been righted.”
“Everything but you. Can we get my stuff moved in this weekend? My place came furnished so the big stuff stays. Shoot, I have to give a notice to my landlord. How do I do that?”
Jobe crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. “Consider it given.”
“Wait, what?”
He shook his head. “Who did you think your landlord was?”
“Some LLC I electronically make the deposits to.” Duh. He’s the one that set it up for me.
“Who do you think owns that LLC?”
“I dunno,” I shrugged. “I figured it was someone you knew since you helped me.”
“Bingo! When I bought my unit, it was bigger than I needed so when I remodeled and made my side into a two-bedroom I decided to rent out the one-bedroom unit to you. Put my old furniture in it and bought new for me after the work was done.”I should’ve known something was up given how cheap my rent was in such a nice, secure building.
“But-but, you hardly knew me.”
“True, but I had a good feeling about you and after you helped me that night, I knew I could trust you. You’re the only friend I’ve ever had, Beck.”
How could I not hug him after that?
“Oof!” Well, maybe not as hard as I just did.
“You’re my bestest friend ever, Jobe.”
“Ditto, Squirt.” He ruffled my hair, and I took off hopping back down the hall and circled back around.
“Let’s order a celebratory dinner,” Daddy Stanley said.
“Can I have a hamburger and fries, please?”
“Only if you promise to eat your carrots, Bunny,” Daddy teased, but he knew I loved carrots.
“Silly Daddy, those are my favorite. Daddy, can we pick up Goldie on the way home?” I hated leaving her alone.
“Absolutely, sweet boy. Let’s have dinner with Daddy Stanley and Jobe and then we can stop by your place and pick up some of your things on our way home. Sound like a plan?”
My head bobbed up and down. “Yes, Daddy, thank you. Your plans are always perfect.” Suddenly it hit me just how much I had. I’d been in that apartment for about five years now and while I moved in with next to nothing, I accumulated kind of a lot of stuff over the years. Plus, everything I just got for Christmas.
Whoa, my life completely changed in a month’s time. No wonder I was scared.
“You alright, baby boy? You went from hopping off a sugar high to dead silent?” Daddy rubbed my back as I stood beside him.
“Just kinda realized I have a lot of stuff to pack. Where am I gonna keep my toys?” I had cute little bins I got at the dollarstore for them. I loved stalking the after Easter sales. There was so much fun bunny stuff for cheap then.
“I have the perfect room for that.” The doorman came in holding a bunch of bags. “Let me help Daddy Stanley with dinner.”
“Once Beck is settled in, we’ll have you both over more often,” Daddy told them during dinner. “We have few things to sort out, some minor remodeling and such, but give it a couple of weeks and we’ll be ready to reveal.”
