“Why not?” He leaned forward.

“He told me none of this would touch me, and, uh, that he’s going to do something else.”

“You can see that was a lie.”

“I see that now.”

“So, can you add anything more to the something else?”

“I don’t know. He just said he was changing things up. I know he had a meeting that had to do with it.”

“See, and you didn’t think you knew anything. I think you know plenty.”

“Agent Bravo, go easy on her. I think she’s telling the truth,” Agent Daniels said.

“I don’t think so, but I know how to make her talk. When we go to court, we will subpoena you. And if you lie, or hold back you’ll be sent to jail for contempt.”

“Jail? But I don’t know anything.”

“You didn’t hear him say anything like he was cleaning up?”

Madison stopped breathing. Was that something to do with what they wanted to know?

“See, Ms. Bryant. You know more than you let on, but a sit in jail will get it out of you.”

“Am I being arrested?”

Chapter 19

“No, you’re free to go. For now. Agent Daniels will walk you out.”

Madison had no idea what had happened. It was as if she woke up in the twilight zone. Henry was dead, Dante would be in jail, and she was alone, with the possibility of going to jail too. Madison didn’t know what to do. She wasn’t sure if she should call anyone. The only person’s number she had who could help Dante was Enzo’s. There was no reason for her to have Gabe or Lucca’s numbers since she only dealt with Dante and Enzo. Less Enzo now that she and Dante were dating. She didn’t want to talk to him, but she would do it if it helped get Dante out of jail.

At home, Madison used her phone to call Enzo. She didn’t think it was a texting situation.

“Hello?”

“Hi. It’s Madison.”

“I know.”

“Oh. Ok. Well I was calling to tell you that—”

“You’re now interested in dating me now that Dante’s been arrested.”

“What? How do you know?”

“I knew you would see the light when Dante was out of the picture.”

“Ew, no. I mean how did you know he was arrested? That’s why I was calling you to get help for him.”

“Of course you would. He gets a phone call.”

“And he called you?”

“No, he called the lawyer.”

“Who told you?” Madison was still confused. He wasn’t explaining how he knew.
