She grins. “There are a few old ladies. Pastor is married to Marlene, but she’s an ER nurse and hasn’t been here since you came home yesterday. Pretty sure you’ll see her tomorrow, once she gets off her on-call rotation. She stays at the hospital during those.” Savvy pauses. “Then there’s Kerri, Pilot’s girlfriend. She doesn’t live around here, so he only sees her when he’s out doing his flights. I can count the number of times I’ve seen her on one hand, and they’ve been together for a few years.”
“That’s gotta be rough.”
Savvy shrugs. “Seems to work for them. There’s also Becs, who’s married to Copper.” She points across the room, and I follow her line of sight to see a woman I’d guess to be in her fifties standing next to Copper. “There she is. Super sweet and loyal to the club.”
“Good to know. Did I get along with all of them?”
“Girl, you got along with everyone,” she says with a grin.
“Even Peach?”
“Most of the time, even her,” she confirms. “I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to reconnect with the other whores, but besides Peach and me, there’s also Star, Patti, and Lulu.”
“I haven’t, but something tells me I should make time if I want them to accept me again.”
“Eh, none of ‘em have a problem with ya,” she says. “Peach is the only one who seems to be struggling with you.”
“Still…” I perk up with an idea. “Hey, do you think you could arrange a time for all of us to get together in the next few days?”
Savvy grins, her face lighting up. “Absolutely. We’ll make it a girl’s night.”
“Who’s having a girls’ night?”
I look over my shoulder to see Zombie standing behind us, his eyes full of worry.
“Me and the club girls,” I inform him.
He narrows his eyes. “Think that’s a good idea?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” I demand, annoyed at being questioned.
He shifts his gaze to Savvy and back again. “No reason. Figured you’d be spending all your time with Lyric, that’s all.”
Like a moth to a flame, I seek out the man in question. He’s still talking to his brothers, but his gaze flicks to mine as if he sensed that my attention shifted to him. He smiles, and something in me shifts.
“I’m gonna go,” Savvy says, slipping from her stool. “Can I let you know tomorrow when a good time will be to get together, Mel?”
“Of course.”
She tips her chin to look up at Zombie. “I’ll be around if you want company later,” she purrs.
“I’ll come find you.”
Savvy blows him a kiss and saunters away.
“So, you and Savvy?”
Zombie smirks. “Me and a pussy. Nothing more, nothing less.”
I wrinkle my nose. “Gross. I do not need that image in my head.”
He shudders. “You’re right, you don’t. Lyric would cut off my cock if he found out.”
“If I find out what?”
I whirl around on my ass so fast I almost fall off my stool. Lyric grabs me by the shoulders to steady me, and Zombie audibly groans.
“Um, well… nothing,” I say.
