The laugh bubbles up my throat and out into the air, helped along by Jax’s stunned expression as he blinks owlishly. Jess cackles behind me.
“You look like a floury snowman,” I gasp. I shriek when he leans forward, shaking his head so flour lands on me.
“You,” he rumbles, “are introuble, shortcake.”
His eyes track me as I move backwards. “Keep going,” he rasps. “I like the chase. It’ll make it all the sweeter when I catch you.”
Oh,shit.
Did not think this through.
I break into a run as Jax pushes himself away from the windowsill. I can hear Jess laughing hysterically behind me as I skid out of the kitchen, my hair flying everywhere as my head swivels. I’m not completely familiar with the downstairs layout, so I make a mad dash down the hall, grabbing at doors until I find a small closet.
Sliding inside, I yank the door shut and shove a hand over my mouth, trying to quieten my breathing as footsteps sound from outside.
“Sienna,” Jax calls, a laugh in his voice. “I’m going to catch you.”
There’s a creak right outside the door. “Especially when you leave me a trail.”
My eyes round as I stare down at my hands. My flour-covered hands.
The door flies open and I squeak as a strong grip closes around my upper arms. Jax tugs me into him, getting even more flour over my top as I find myself pressed against him.
His nostrils flare as he dips his head and breathes into my neck. “Sweet Sienna.”
“Jax.” My eyelids actually fucking flutter as his stubble rasps over the sensitive skin at my neck.
Somehow, I find the damn near fucking superhuman strength to push him back.
“No,” I warn him shakily, pointing my finger for good measure. “Bad alpha.”
“Only for you.” His eyes are dark as he takes a step forward. “What’s my reward for catching you?”
I fend him off with wavering hands. “I don’t know. What do you want?”
“A kiss.”
Oh, hell.
Jax giving me puppy eyes and apologies is pretty hard to resist. Jax with smouldering eyes and flour-spattered hair is fuckingdevastating. My back meets the wall as he stalks me, his hands caging either side of my head as he brings his face close to mine. His scent washes over me, slightly musky and all Jax.
“Let me kiss you, Sienna,” he whispers against my lips. “Let me kiss you the way I should’ve all along.”
I mean…just alittlekiss won’t hurt.
My lips part under his, and my eyes close as I wait. Instead of the fire I expect, Jax presses the softest kiss to my lower lip, before he does the same to the top.
I blink at him as he withdraws, and he gives me a small half-smile.
“You deserve to be treated like you’re precious, shortcake.”
Yeah, that’s cute and all, but I want the damn fire.
He closes in on me again. “And now, I can do what I’ve wanted to since I saw you in that bar.”
Wha—
His lips crash against mine, almost bruising in their intensity as I melt underneath him. Jax’s arms slide around me, his hand splaying across my back, the other cradling my head as he holds me against him andtakes.
