Jessalyn shoots me a wry look. “It was a two-hour film, Si.”
Grimacing, I stretch, trying to work out the painful knots in my back from hunching my body into weird positions to try and make this damn pain feel better. “Sorry. My head wasn’t really in it.”
It’s currently stuck on the four alphas lingering downstairs. It doesn’t help that I can pick up traces of Jax’s misty scent coming from the hall, thanks to his sleepover last night. My gut clenches. Logan will be here soon.
“It’s helping, though, right?” Jess scooches closer to me, her voice soft. “Having them here?”
I half-shrug, half-nod. It might be helping my body, but I’m not sure it’s helping my heart. It definitely doesn’t help that they’re giving me all the soft words and promises I needed from them to start with.
My lips firm. Too little, too fucking late.
“I need to get Logan,” I mutter, but Jess jumps up. “I’ll get him,” she offers, edging towards the door. “Why don’t you go and get yourself sorted?”
She’s acting a bit weird, but I let it slide as I head down the hall. After doing my business and brushing my teeth, I shuffle across into my room.
And then back out.
Back in.Aaaaand… there’s a whole lot of stuff here that wasn’t here earlier. My heart swoops inside my chest as my head spins around, taking in the soft warmth of the fairy lights wound carefully around my bed frame. There’s a whole heap of blankets and pillows laid out carefully at the end of my bed, and on my nightstand is a basket filled with… snacks?
I step forward to get a better look, when my eyes catch on something plugged into the wall. Frowning, I lean down awkwardly and pull it out, holding it up to get a better look.
A nightlight.
Sinking onto the bed with the light in my hands, I blink at the wall opposite. Baskets that weren’t there earlier have been carefully laid out, full of different toiletries. Candles are dotted around too.
There’s a note propped against the snack basket, and my hands shake as I reach out for it.
Bonded,
This isn’t an apology. This is what you should have had all along.
It’s not enough, I know.
Tell me if you need anything else – please.

My eyes burn, tears coming thick and fast and landing on the paper in large drops that I brush away, as though his words actually fuckingmeananything when he’s broken my damn heart into pieces.
There’s a creak, and my head shoots up, my eyes landing on Logan where he stands in the doorway. His face drops when he sees mine, and he rushes forward.
I flinch when he lands on his knees in front of me, the things he’s carrying clattering to the floor.
“Sienna.” His voice is low, anxious. “What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
I dash my tears away angrily with the back of my hand, avoiding his chestnut eyes. But he ducks down, and his hand comes up, nudging my chin. “Tell me.”
It’s a demand, but his voice is soft enough to ease the snap I can feel in the back of my throat.
“Why did you lie to me?” I ask him instead, searching his face. He holds my eyes, enough for me to see the flecks of gold in his irises.
“Because I’m an idiot,” he whispers. “A stupid idiot who didn’t realize what I was doing.”
“No.” I slash my hand through the air in irritation, narrowly avoiding his face. “I don’t want to hear bullshit, Logan. I want thetruth.”
He takes a deep breath. “Let’s get you comfortable.”
I scramble back on the bed, my hand snatching at a pretty, soft green blanket that I can’t resist and wrapping it around me as Logan clambers on. He sits closer than Jax did, our shoulders brushing together as we both lean our backs against the wall. His legs dangle over the edge of the bed as he shifts, his fresh, lemony scent soaking into my nose.
