Nate laughs. “Let’s do it again. Tomorrow?”

Her cheeks flush full-blown scarlet, the color dropping down her neck as she backs out of the hallway without answering.

Axel and I wait a whole four seconds before we round on Nathaniel.

“Explain,” I demand. “Right the fuck now, Nathaniel.”

He rolls his eyes at me before he responds. “We got a bit carried away. Turns out they don’t exaggerate about alphas and omegas and all the hormones. Had to take a break.”

“And?”

“And, she’s entitled to her privacy.” He frowns at us. “I’m not going to brag to you all about what happens between us.”

So something did happen.

The envy takes me by surprise, and I bite back the instinct to demand more information.

“Fine.” I turn, intending to leave them to it, but Nate calls out.

“I want her for our pack, Cade.”

He looks determined, and I nod, slowly.

“We agreed,” I remind him. “We all need to get to know her, and she needs to agree to all of us, Nate. That’s the only way this’ll work.”

The sarcastic little shit raises an eyebrow at me. “Better get moving then, old man.”

Growling, I slam the door shut behind me.

ChapterTwenty-Eight

Hudson

I’m elbow deep in flour, throwing out instructions to the sous chefs when Gabrielle ducks into the kitchen, her eyes skittering to where I’m standing.

When I smile at her in greeting, she glances away, grabbing her apron from the hook and fastening it around her waist as she ducks into the dish station.

Frowning, I keep an eye on her as I finish up with my crew and wash up at the sink, brushing off Veronica as I weave my way around various people to get to her.

“Hey,” I say, rubbing my neck when I reach her.

She barely glances at me as she plunges her hands into the hot soapy water.

“Hi, Hudson.”

I rock back on my heels.

“Ah… is everything alright? You seem a little…”

“Everything is fine.”

At least I get a small smile this time.

“You promise?” I ask, searching her face. “Anyone upset you?”

She shakes her head vigorously, her cheeks pinking. “No.”

“Okay. You’ll let me know if you need anything?”
