“You hungry?” he asks. “My packmate makes a mean breakfast.”

My already wobbly comfort levels take a nosedive. Axel opens his mouth at the look on my face, but I’m already spinning, walking away.

He jogs up to me, and I flinch away. “Please don’t follow me.”

He could overpower me easily, drag me into his gym if he wanted to. But I’m grateful when he backs off immediately. “Please come back,” he calls out. “If you need anything.”

I wave a hand as I pick up the pace. It’s surprisingly difficult to walk away, just as bad as the honey-eyed alpha at that restaurant.

I need to get a damn grip and stop letting my hormones take charge with their freaky omega voodoo shit. Still, I can feel his eyes on my back as I walk away. And for the first time, it’s not abrasive, or unwelcome.

It’s warm.

Stopping to yank the dark green hoodie over my head, I pause at the teakwood scent, clean but very clearly belonging to Axel.

I take a deep breath as I pull the sweatshirt down, lifting the edge to take another greedy inhale.

It’s just a nice scent. He probably didn’t realize it was his.

I lift the hood up, taking a moment to enjoy the warmth around my face. For the first time in days, I feel like I can actually take a full breath.

“Round three. Here we go.”

ChapterTen

Hudson

My phone goes off, scaring me half to death as I’m leaning over the schedule, trying to rearrange things so I have enough staff to cover today and this evening.

Nate huffs a sleepy laugh at me over his morning coffee as I scramble for my mobile, digging under piles of paper.

“Fuck,” I bark down the receiver. “You scared me half to death.”

“I found her,” Axel rushes out. “The omega.”

I blink. “You.. found her? How?”

Nate freezes in his seat, his eyes widening as he points frantically to the phone. I hit the speaker and sit back as Axel spills the story out.

“I knew it,” Nate hisses. “She does need help.”

He jumps up. “I’m calling Cade.”

As he leaves, I switch the speaker off and pull the phone back to my ear. “So?”

“So what?” Axel doesn’t give anything away, and my foot taps impatiently.

“Comeon, Ax. I’m the only one who hasn’t met her. What did you think?”

“I… she’s…,”

My patience snaps. “She’swhat?” I hiss.

He sighs in my ear. “She’s perfect,” he rumbles. “But she’s gone, Hud. I tried to track her, but it was like she’d vanished into mid-air. Sneaky little cat.”

His tone is admiring, rather than pissed off.

Then the fucker hangs up on me.
