Turning, I frown as I slow, my head turning to glance up and down the street.
It’s the same feeling I had in the parking lot, when I was with Gabrielle.
When nothing jumps out, I slowly make my way inside.
Maybe I have a stalker.
Wouldn’t be the first time an overzealous fan started following me around. I’ll have to be more careful for a while, especially if I’ve got Gabrielle with me.
Meaning to talk to Cade, I stick my head inside his office when I get upstairs.
The scent hits me like a fist to my stomach, the scattered papers giving me an idea of what’s been happening here this morning. Slamming the door shut, I take deep breaths, trying to force my suddenly half-mast cock to take a chill pill.
My feet turn towards Gabrielle’s room, but I pull myself back. If she’s with Cade, she probably won’t welcome me sticking my nose in.
A little ball of envy forms in my stomach.
I’ve been tied up for the last few days, pulled all over the city on jobs, so I haven’t really had chance to spend much time with our omega. I’ve had to rely on updates from my pack, and they are not the best at communicating.
As if on cue, my phone goes off in my pocket.
Cade: Nest. Code red.
I stare at the message.
Code red?
We have codes now?
Another message comes through.
Cade: Hurry.
My feet start moving before my brain has fully caught up, and I push through Gabrielle’s door without asking.
The doors to her nest are open, and Cade spins to me.
I take in his disheveled state.
Cade isneverdisheveled.
His unbuttoned shirt is half-tucked in, his trousers loosened at the top.
“Why are you only wearing one shoe?”
Even his hair looks wild, sticking up all over the place as though he’s run his hands through it a dozen times. He barely looks down, gesturing towards the doors of Gabrielle’s nest.
“Get in here,” he snaps.
Then I hear the sniffle, and I take off, pushing past him as I find an omega-shaped lump of blankets in the center of her nest.
Cade follows me in, and I give him the side-eye, mouthingwhat’s going on?
He shrugs helplessly, his eyes panicked.
I clear my throat. “Kitten?”
The blankets freeze, and I hear a muffled sob.
