Her panting is punctuated by tiny hoarse moans. They sound deeper, broken, as if she’s torn her vocal chords.
I choke, white hot rage running through me. Beside me, Devlin roars with anguish.
Her lower body is bare, her thighs glistening with juices. The alpha standing next to the bed calmly zips up his trousers and turns to face us.
“Sorry, gents,” Jackson smirks. “No harm, no foul, eh? I couldn’t resist when Jason contacted me. I’m sure you can understand. She’s quite the tasty piece.”
Rogue snarls, but says nothing as he cocks his gun. Jackson loses his cocky grin, taking a step backwards and raising his hands.
“Now then, no need to be hasty. Perhaps you misunderstood me. Things didn’t get that far. Let’s just take a step back, shall we? We don’t need to fall out over anomega.”
His lip twists cruelly as he says it. Like omegas are somehow less than the piece of shit we’re looking at.
“You,” I say. I don’t even spare him a glance, my eyes fixed on our beautiful, broken mate. “You areeverythingthat is fucking wrong with this world.”
Rogue pulls the trigger without another word.
I’m at Harper’s side in a flash, running my hands over her. She’s unconscious, her body rippling even as her eyes remain closed. “Ace,” I call, my voice breaking. He appears next to me, his breath ragged as we look down.
“Get the restraints,” I rasp, and he moves to assess the straps keeping Harper tied to the table. I touch the bag of artificial heat enhancement. There are only a few drops left.
I close my eyes for a moment, agony threatening to pull me under.I’m so sorry, baby.
Gently, I extract the needle from her arm, peeling off the tape as softly as I can. I move my hands over her as gently as I can, checking for further injuries. Rogue’s hand reaches out as I move towards her shoulder, stopping me. His face is tortured.
“I’ll do it,” he says hoarsely, and I nod. I don’t think I can. I grit my teeth at the sound of her shoulder popping back into place, and Harper lets out a tortured scream, arching before her body flops back onto the table.
There’s a scuffling sound from behind me, and I turn as Devlin storms through the door. He has Jason’s throat clasped in his hand, his feet dangling pathetically in mid-air. My fists flex and I move across to them. I can scent his fucking blood in the air, and it’smine.
He throws Jason to the ground, and the weasel tries to crawl away from us. He raises his head to show me his beaten face as he dares to glance at Harper.
I kick him hard in the face and he howls. “Don’t youfuckinglook at her,” I snarl. Devlin moves to stand at my side as I pull a knife free from my holster. I turn to look at him and he nods at me, sensing my need.
Ineedto do this. Vengeance swirls in my veins, filling me with adrenalin.
I step forward and grin savagely at Jason. He pales even through the blood on his face.
“You will never touch her again,” I say quietly.
And then I start cutting.
ChapterForty-Six
Harper
Someone is screaming. It cuts through the veil hanging over me, and I whimper.
It hurts too much.
It’s me. I’m screaming.
Growls sound around me, and a hand strokes gently over my cheek.
“Little omega,” someone begs.
The words pierce my heart. I moan, shaking my head. Ace is dead.
“Sweetheart,” someone murmurs. “We’re so sorry. We failed you.”
