Heading into the house, I’m greeted with a mixture of arousal and frustration. I can hear Gabe and Ace going at it from here, Gabe’s moans punctuated with short sharp gasps as they work the need out of their bodies.

There’s nothing from Harper and Devlin, and I assume he’s taken them both off to bed until the knot settles and Harper comes around.

Locking the main door, I move around and check all the locks before sliding into the office. I have a feeling we might get a visit from the compound, thanks to our little stunt this evening. I try to call my father, but he doesn’t pick up. I spoke to him yesterday and he told me he was arranging the paperwork to sign Harper over to us permanently, but he’s refused to give me any more information about his strange bahavior at the compound. He did promise to look out for Gabrielle and Molly, though.

A distinctly feminine moan reaches my ears, and I clench my fists. My erection is still nudging me insistently, ripples of need urging me to go up and sink myself into the soft omega upstairs. I want her all to myself when I finally take her, though.

Instead, I head to the shower and turn it on.Cold.

ChapterForty-Two

Harper

My eyes flicker up and down, drowsiness threatening to close them again. I’m so warm. Turning, a male grumble tugs at me and arms wrap me in a smoky-scented embrace. Devlin. I smile, rubbing my face against his chest.

Something nudges at my consciousness. Something important.

Last night. The gala.

“Devlin!” I gasp, my eyes flying open. He’s alert in an instant, pulling me against him as he sits up. “Fuck, princess,” he says, searching my face. “Are you ok?”

“I’m fine,” I say, but there’s a tremble in my voice. I wiggle out of his warmth and throw myself out of bed, searching for clothes. Finding Dev’s shirt thrown on the floor carelessly, I shrug it on, and my eyes roll back slightly at the scent coming off it. Oh yeah. I definitely heat spiked. Warmth fills my belly at the thought, but the gut-wrenching need from last night has definitely passed.

“We need to get the others,” Dev says, clearly sensing my panic. I nod, frantically doing up the buttons.

“Jason will report us,” my voice shakes as we lock eyes. “The Compound will come for me.”

Devlin follows my lead, grabbing jeans and tugging them on. We burst out of the room and Dev bangs on Rogue’s door while I tap on Ace’s. A rumpled Ace opens it, lips curling in a grin when he sees me.

“Little omega,” he says, a rough purr in his voice that makes me lean towards him. “Are you feeling better?”

Gabe appears behind him, yawning, and a smile spreads over my face despite the worry in my chest. He blushes when I catch his eye.

Rogue calls from down the hallway. “We need to speak to my father. Harper is worried about the compound pulling us in for last night. Time for damage control.”

Gabe and Ace straighten immediately, tension locking their spines.

“Like fuck are they taking you anywhere,” Gabe snaps, stepping forward and running his hands up and down my arms soothingly.

“Don’t worry,” he whispers, tugging me into an embrace. “Rogue will be able to sort it with Christian.”

My stomach is churning, nausea rising up as I remember the carnage. Jason won’t let the humiliation go. Not a chance in hell.

We pile down into the kitchen, Ace pulling me onto his lap while Gabe puts the coffee on. I start to feel a little foolish as I look around at them all.

“Sorry,” I whisper, and they all turn to look at me in surprise. “I woke up and just panicked.”

Ace rubs my back in soothing circles. “Don’t stress, little omega. You might be right, but it’s nothing we won’t be able to sort out, I’m sure.”

“I’ll call my father now.” Rogue pulls out his phone and starts to dial, but there’s a tap on the door. Devlin pales, searching for his phone.

“I didn’t set the perimeter alarms last night,” he whispers. Because of my heat spike.

We all tense. Fear forms a lump in my stomach, and I look around. Rogue and Devlin exchange a look.

“I’ll get it,” Rogue says, standing up. He comes over to me and kisses the top of my head, his hand cupping my cheek gently.

“Better get down, sweetheart, just in case.”
