Josie gave a sharp whistle. George skidded to a stop and looked at her. “Get over here.”
George abandoned Cleopatra and happily trotted over to Josie.
“Sister dear,” Augusta said. “How did you know to do that?”
“Braxton told me George comes when you whistle loud enough.”
Augusta exchanged a look with Margaret and shrugged. “Who knew? Best put Cleopatra upstairs where she belongs.”
“Right away.” Margaret chased the cat, which excited George, resulting in him barking and chasing both.
Augusta rolled her eyes. “Dear me. I hope whomever we find likes dogs and cats.”
“And matchmaking,” Josie added over the chaos.
Augusta smiled. “Yes, that most of all. Well, let’s look at Val’s list and get to work. The sooner we find someone to help us, the less disaster we’ll have to deal with. What a way to start the new year.”
“Indeed,” Josie agreed with a smile. “Imagine… Val in love.”
“With a preacher, no less,” Augusta added. “I’m happy for her.”
“Yes, how could we not be? Don’t worry, we’ll survive this.” Josie began perusing Val’s list and returned to her desk as Margaret continued to chase George and Cleopatra through the office.
