I later found out that the dread-headed nigga who called my name was Lennox’s stepson, Aaron. He and his crew were gonna be to me what Lennox was to Sincere.

He was handing his world over to me, but he damn sure wasn’t gonna do that, leaving me unprotected. He had the best watching over him, and he wanted the same for me. I found myself wondering why me. Why he picked me, but I was told not to question God and to accept what was placed in my hands.

I looked over at Shakur and Trini, who had a wide ass smile on their faces as we stepped into The Society’s ballroom. Tonight was some type of charity gala that I would usually be outside for, but not tonight.

I walked inside, and I temporarily stiffened. This was new to me, and I needed to take a moment. Noticing a server walking my way, I grabbed a flute of champagne and sipped on it slowly as my eyes danced around the room, allowing myself that moment to adjust.

My father was there, locked up in a deep conversation with Viper, but stopped when he caught sight of me. I hadn’t seen him since he showed up at my condo the night I killed that young nigga. He had been calling me nonstop though; I just hadn’t seen his face.

His eyes widened, and then his eyebrows knitted in confusion, probably wondering how and why my black ass was standing inside. I turned away from his eyes and continued to where Sincere was sitting with Lennox. The two men stood to their feet to shake our hands, and I took a seat.

“I see you’re the star of this show tonight,” Shakur kidded, noticing that everybody was suddenly looking at me.

Sincere simpered and said, “That’s what I wanted.”

He then looked at me sternly.

“This is your world now, Havoc. You better mothafucking own it. Fuck these people in here, it’s all about you. Iseeyou, understand?”

I froze at his words and took a deep breath. He was right. It was time I moved out of the shadows.

I rolled my shoulders back and nodded at him. He hit me with a smirk and waved a server over for a drink.

I looked down at my watch. Time was going, and I wondered if I was running out of it.

Is she going to come?

“Hey, Havoc,” someone called out with a sultry voice. I lifted my head to see that it was Ocean. She was standing so close to me that she was almost standing between my legs.

“Back up a little,” I told her.

Her face flashed a little red with embarrassment.

Ignoring her for a moment, I searched the room again before I looked at Shakur, wondering if Kairi was going to show up. I told him to let her know about tonight and to meet me here, but when he shook his head, I knew that she wasn’t coming tonight.

Lennox moved out of his seat, allowing Ocean to slip her fast ass in beside me. She tried to cup my arm, and I shook my head at her. Sincere gave me a side look, and I knew what he was saying without even speaking.

He’d told me that I needed to get married by the time he fully stepped down, and I knew he didn’t want that person to be Ocean. But he had nothing to worry about because I wouldn’t marry her even if my life depended on it. I’d rather dance with death.

“Ocean, we’re having a private conversation right now. I’m gonna need you to leave,” I said when she attempted to circle her arm around mine again. She looked stunned for a second before smiling as if I was playing around.

“My daddy is here,” she threatened, not even knowing that soon, her pops would be calling me boss—that was if I still let him. I chuckled along with Shakur. Ocean peered over at him, and I noticed the look of shock on her face when she realized that it was him.

I almost laughed, remembering he told me how she gave him head and tried to fuck three years ago before he left.

“Well, why don’t you go over with your daddy?” I suggested, looking at her sternly. A look of confusion washed over her face, and then she stood to her feet.

“Uh, okay,” she stuttered. She looked at Sincere for some reason, but he just kept his head straight like he couldn’t see her. Huffing, Ocean walked away, making sure to sway her ass and hips as if that shit would bother me, but it didn’t.

“Make sure you know what you’re doing, Havoc,” Sincere said as soon as she walked away. I looked at him.

“That’s not who I’m gonna marry, Sincere. Trust me.”

I then looked at Shakur again, who simply shrugged his shoulders. I wasn’t trying to force Kairi. I wanted her to come to me, but I just prayed that she did!
