“Cool, well, I’m gonna need you here every day for the rest of this week,” I let her know.

Kairi bit into her bottom lip like she was thinking about it. Her big eyes bounced around before they landed on my face again. There was some innocence in them that was pulling me in.

“I can come until Friday, but not on the weekends. I still work with Carlene, and I can’t just leave her hanging like that.”

“Damn, girl. How many jobs you got at one time?”

She was a hustler just like me. I respected it.

“I can’t and won’t have my father worrying about me. I’m hoping he will stop working soon once he sees I can look after myself.”

I just sat there looking at her before I answered, “Your pops is lucky to have a daughter like you.”

Her face flushed red, and she thanked me.

“Okay, so I will see you tomorrow then?” I asked, standing to walk her out. I made sure to walk a little too close to her body and felt the way she stiffened. Oh, I was gonna enjoy fucking with her little ass. I had no plans on touching her, because she didn’t need to be mixed up in my mess with The Society and Ocean, but a nigga could definitely look.

When Kairi slipped her feet into her Crocs, I reached around her and opened the door that I had to use to hold myself up because my head felt light.

“You should go and lie down. You don’t look too well,” she said. I agreed because I was starting to feel worse.

“Oh, and two hours isn’t long enough. You need to be here for at least four,” I said, and her mouth dropped.

“Don’t worry, I’ll pay.”

Kairi nodded and stepped out of the door. I smiled as I closed it behind her.

Going back to my living space, I picked up my phone to send my brother a text.

Me:Bro, it seems I got this shit bad as fuck. Gonna be out until the weekend.

He texted back and told me to get well soon. I had to smirk because with Kairi around, something told me I was going to get better real soon!

CHAPTER ELEVEN

KAIRI MOORE

THREE DAYS LATER

Ihad been going to Havoc’s condo for the past three days, just like he asked me to, and I would admit that he was interesting. Just like I picked up about him at the bar that night, he liked to keep a low profile. He explained that he had an older brother known as Hell, but I’d never heard of him. I did wonder where they were getting these damn names from though!

Everything about him as a person was reason enough for me to keep my distance, but I couldn’t. He felt like a new food I discovered that I just couldn’t get enough of. The second day I went there, we just spent hours talking in the kitchen while I cooked and cleaned up. He was surprised to know that I really could cook a little something. I wasn’t no chef, but I knew enough, and he seemed to enjoy the food.

He asked me questions about my father and how he even got mixed up in The Society. Unlike me, he was born into it and had no choice. We didn’t really speak about his family, to be honest, and I didn’t try to pry. I couldn’t imagine what it was like beingthe son of one of the heads. Still, he didn’t act like them at all, and I guess that counted for something.

Today was the last day of me going to see him until next week. He explained that he had to work with his brother, so I would go back to his condo once a week. I wasn’t sure if he would be there then or not, and I wasn’t going to ask.

I stepped off the elevator, and like the last few days, Havoc was standing at the door waiting for me. As soon as I entered the code into the elevator, it would send him a notification, so he knew when I was on my way up.

“What you cheffing today?” he asked, stepping aside for me to enter.

“Chicken Alfredo,” I answered as I kicked off my Crocs. He followed me into the kitchen, and I put the grocery bags down.

“I bought more fruit today, which should last until I’m back next week,” I said. I stood there looking at him, fighting the urge to ask him if he would be there, but chose not to. The less I knew, the better.

“Thanks.”

I put everything away and then made my way to the bathroom to start cleaning. Just like always, it was already spotless, and I had to shake my head with a chuckle. I never understood why he continued to pay me to clean when it clearly didn’t need it, but I wasn’t going to stop him if he wanted to give me money for it.
