“Oh my god, he’s back,” someone yelled, but I ignored them and kept my eyes on Sony, who was staring at me like he’d seen a ghost.
He looked at his crew before rubbing a hand down his face and approaching me alone. One of his friends tried to follow, but he told him to stand back. As Sony stepped closer to me, he led me back away from his peoples a little and looked at me.
“Damn, I didn’t think I’d ever see you again,” he said. I nodded because I had already made up my mind that I was never going to come back, yet here I was.
Sony turned to look around for a second before looking back at me. The nigga looked high or uneasy or something. He was just giving off these weird ass vibes.
“How long you been back?” he questioned.
“A few days.” I hunched and folded my arms across my chest.
“I thought we agreed that you would stay away and I’d look out for your family?” Sony said, and I frowned.
All of this bullshit with The Society was the reason why I had to leave my family. I didn’t want to, but I did it to protect them.
I’d never really messed with these niggas like that and always kept to myself, until one day Viper offered me a chance to join Sony’s crew. I declined.
Yet, despite me not wanting anything to do with them, Viper saw me as a threat and like I was challenging him by declining his offer. He made it very clear, I either joined Sony or left town if I wanted my father to keep his job.
My dad thought I left because he advised me to, but it was Viper’s ultimatum.
I chose to leave, thinking it was the only way to protect them, so I understood why Sony said what he did.
My head nodded to agree.
“You’re right, Sony, but the thing is, I’m hearing that some young niggas ran up in my house and fucked with my pops. That’s a problem for me,” I said. His eyes widened. Either this was the first time he was hearing about it, or he didn’t expect me to know, and that pissed me off.
“That’s news to me, Shak, but I promise I will find out and deal with it,” Sony said as if that was supposed to make me feel better, but it didn’t.
“Nah, I will deal with it myself, Sony. It was good seeing you,” I said before turning and walking away.
I’d only come here to see if he knew who the niggas were. Clearly, he didn’t, so he was no longer needed. Conversation over.
“But you gonna leave once you find out, right?!” he yelled to my back, and I didn’t answer him because I wasn’t trying to break another promise to Kairi.
As I headed back to my car, I thought about how I was going to protect my family from Viper. I knew Sony would run back to his pops like a bitch. Viper made it very clear, join him or I was against him, and I had no plans on joining a pussy like Sony. He walked around with his chest poked out because of who hisfather was, but I knew deep down inside, he wasn’t about that life.
Not like me. I’d done some shit my own family would disown me for, but I wasn’t about to bow to a man like Viper.
Just as I made it back to my car, I noticed a fire red Hellcat pull up. After the engine was killed, the driver door opened, and Hell stepped out. I chuckled.
I see that nigga was still around.
Feeling like it was definitely time for me to leave, I unlocked my car and pulled open my door to get in, when I heard the Hellcat passenger door open. I looked up and locked eyes with Havoc. The nigga looked confused on seeing me. For a good few seconds, we just stood there looking at each other, but then I noticed Sony watching us too for some strange ass reason.
Shaking my head, I climbed into my car and drove away, wondering if it was the right choice to come back after all.
CHAPTER FIVE
MAKARI “HAVOC” SANCHEZ
Irolled on my back and had to laugh when the smell of bacon wafted across my nose. Every time we had an argument, she would find herself at my house cooking for me. I slowly sat up and looked at the clock.
7 a.m.
Yawning, I stretched out my body and climbed off the bed. After checking my phone for any messages, I went into the bathroom to get ready.
By the time I was done, my stomach was growling so badly, and my mouth was watering. I entered the kitchen, and my mama turned to look at me.
