Mama Lara told me how she used to chase Makari all over the house, and whenever she told him off, he found it funny, just like Kelechi!
That’s what we get for naming him after his uncle with a name like Hell!
When we found out that we were having a boy, it was a no-brainer to name him after the two most important men in Makari’s life. He was the man today because of the time and energy both of them put into him.
Makari came over and gave me a kiss on the lips.
“Don’t worry, our daughter will be like you,” he said with a wink.
“What daughter? I’m done having kids,” I lied, knowing I’d already picked out her name.
Makayla.
“Liar,” Makari sassed and pecked my lips again.
“This is why my nephew has no manners now.” Shakur walked into the kitchen with Trini waddling behind him. My face lit up seeing her stomach with my niece inside. I mushed my brother on the back of his head and walked over to give her a hug.
“How you feeling?” I asked, helping her take a seat at the dining table. Trini had six weeks to go, so I knew she was tired as hell.
She gave me a ‘bitch please’ look, and I giggled.
“You could have warned me that I wouldn’t be able to see my feet,” Trini fussed and rolled her eyes at me.
“Girl, I told you! Why do you think I had you putting my shoes on for me?”
I couldn’t get any more obvious than that!
Trini looked at me and giggled. “I thought you were just being lazy.”
“I couldn’t lift up my feet, Trini!”
We screamed, laughing together. The man looked at us and shook their heads, but we just ignored them.
“Where’s Sparkle?” Trini asked, picking up an orange to peel.
“Right here, boo, I wasn’t missing breakfast,” Sparkle yelled, dancing into the room.
“Let’s go to the den,” Makari tried to whisper, but I heard him. He looked at me, smiled, and disappeared with my brother. He tried to take Kelechi with him, but Sparkle snatched him out of his hands.
I couldn’t get her away from her godson.
She joined us at the table to eat.
“Kelechi, no you didn’t!” I fussed when he took food from Trini’s hand, like I hadn’t just been wrestling with him to eat just seconds before they came.
He gave me an innocent look and shoved the orange into his mouth.
“He’s got your whole face, Kairi,” Sparkle announced. Trini nodded to co-sign. “I see how you got his daddy.”
Trini spat out laughing while I sat there mean-mugging Sparkle.
“Girl, you’s a damn lie. He came to me!” I lied, knowing full well that I was the one who made the first move.
“Kairi, stop that lying! You raped me!” Makari suddenly appeared and yelled.
My mouth dropped as he laughed.
“It’s all good because I liked it,” Makari winked at me.
