“Okay, Kairi, stop crying. Chill,” I said, hoping that would make her stop, but she only cried harder.

The shit was upsetting me. I’d never seen her cry so hard.

“I’m sorry. I’m not angry anymore, okay?” I pleaded. “Stop crying. You’re already sick behind this shit, you’re gonna make yourself worse.”

Since this whole thing started, she’d been looking drawn out and washed out. It was time we put this aside so she could focus on getting well again.

“I’m just grieving for my brother, and I’m sorry I took it out on you. I’m gonna work on it, but I need you to stop crying first,” I said.

She peered up at me and rubbed at her eyes.

“I’m not sick,” she sniveled, using her arm to wipe away her tears. “I’m pregnant.”

My mouth fell because I wasn’t expecting that. But I had been sexing her little ass off like I had no fucking sense.

I looked at her stomach, my words lodged in my throat.

This had to be some sick joke from God, because why would He let us get pregnant now?

After finding out the truth and dealing with this war, was a baby really the best thing?

“I can already see you ain’t happy,” Kairi said before she started crying again.

“I never said I wasn’t happy, Kairi, I just wasn’t expecting it now,” I let her know.

“Me neither, I almost died when I found out,” she said, being all dramatic and shit.

I chuckled, and she looked at me.

My eyes went down to her stomach again, but this time, the feeling of dread was replaced with warmth. A feeling of a new beginning—a second chance. My mama always told me that God never made a mistake!

“You got a little Havoc in there?” I asked, brushing my hand across it.

She looked at me with uncertainty in her eyes before she giggled nervously.

Maybe this was the new chapter that we needed to put all this behind us and help me heal.

The idea of a little me running around our house lifted my spirit.

“We have some shit to work on, Kairi,” I said, being honest. She nodded. “But, I think we’re gonna be fine,” I assured her.

My anger had subsided because deep down inside, I knew she didn’t mean it. That shit was meant for Sony and all the bullshit he’d put her through, and I was going to make sure he got what he deserved in the end.

“So, you think you can find, River?” I asked. She looked up at me and nodded to agree.

It was time to end this!

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

KAIRI SANCHEZ-MOORE

“There she is,” Trini pointed at River sauntering down the street. I’d told Makari that I could find her, but now that we had, I was scared.

My palms were sweating so badly, and my throat felt tight all of a sudden.

Trini turned to look at me. I really appreciated the fact that she chose to help me. I was going to bring Sparkle with me, but I just didn’t want her involved anymore because she was having a harder time dealing with it all. My best friend was blaming herself and had been spiraling lately.

The last thing I needed to do was bring her around this situation again.
