“I didn’t want them to get him just in case something went wrong,” she explained, and I had to give it to her because I never thought of that.

Clearly, Havoc was the target. Now it made sense why Sony wanted to know the exact location Havoc and Shakur were going to be.

If Kairi and I failed at getting them, they would have gotten to Havoc when he arrived.

I nodded my head and closed my eyes as I leaned my head against the wall.

I sniveled back my tears, knowing the outcome could have been so different, and I’d caused it.

I pried my eyes open to see Kairi sitting on the ground, just looking at the carpet. Her hands were shaking, showing me how scared she really was. Havoc might have trained her to shoot, but I knew now was the first time she actually had to use it on people.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, seeing the chaos I brought into her quiet life. Her new home was now filled with the smell of gunpowder and blood. Bodies of enemies I sent to her.

Moments later, I heard Havoc’s roar echo in the house.

“Kairi! Where are you?!”

“Yo, what the fuck happened?” Shakur voiced next.

“KAIRI!”

“I’m here,” she called out, slowly standing to her feet.

Havoc practically flew up the stairs. He didn’t even see me. His eyes were on Kairi only. He pulled her into his arms, and tears pooled in my eyes seeing the relief wash over his face, showing me just how much he really loved this girl, and I’d almost taken that away from him.

He pulled back to look at her and checked her for any injuries.

Surprisingly, andthankfully, she was good. We both were.

“What the fuck happened? And don’t lie to me,” Havoc said.

Kairi froze, and so did I, and then she looked at me!

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

KAIRI SANCHEZ-MOORE

In my heart, I knew it the moment those men entered my house without setting off the alarm that someone had sent them. Did I know it was Trini? Not until she suddenly appeared in my bedroom.

I heard a noise and assumed it was Makari, who might have forgotten something, until I heard other voices and realized it wasn’t him. By the time I ran back for my phone, they caught me. It wasn’t until they were demanding that I call my husband that I knew they were trying to lure him into a trap.

Even without asking, I knew Trini had sent them, but I was just thankful that she changed her mind and helped me. I couldn’t ask for any more than that.

Makari was standing there just looking at her. My brother was upstairs too now, while the rest of the crew started to take care of the bodies we left.

The smell of blood mixed with gunpowder was making my stomach turn. As I looked behind me, I saw one of the bodies instantly transporting that moment of fear back into my body. I shuddered, closed my eyes and took a few deep breathes.

Makari was looking at me, and then he moved his eyes Trini’s way. I noticed the moment his face switched, letting me know that he knew the truth.

“How the fuck those niggas even knew I wasn’t here to come here?” he asked while still looking at Trini.

Shakur then turned to look at her too. The anger rising, showing in his face.

“I-I—” Trini stuttered.

“Did you set my wife up?!” Havoc barked at her.

Trini’s face dropped, and the color drained. Her eyes widened, and tears sparkled in them. I watched as she struggled to breathe, swallowing hard. Even Shakur turned his fury her way.
