Page 79 of Keeping You

“You coming, Chase?” Erica shouted from the front porch and I quickly made my way over to her.

“Welcome.” The older woman smiled brightly at me and then pulled Erica in by her hand. It felt like a home here and I wondered if this was the kind of atmosphere Erica wanted when we started a family.

I was already living at her place and we had made it into our own, but I still wanted to do more with it. I wanted her to have a home that screamed her, and it wasn’t like her home wasn’t hers, but you could tell just by looking at it, that it was a place where she slept and sometimes ate. The only photos in the house were of me, but I had started to change that. I kept adding photos of us together, and then ones of her parents.

We had accrued a few knick-knacks over the last few months and had started putting them on tables and in the bedroom. I wanted it to feel cozy and lived in, because it was. It was a house where we spent our time together and at one point in time it was going to be filled with children, however many Erica wanted.

“I already have you two checked in.” The woman handed Erica a set of skeleton keys and pointed toward the stairs. “It’s the second room on the right.”

“Thank you so much, Delores.” Erica leaned in to give the woman a kiss on her cheek.

“Thank you for the books, love.” Delores patted a stack of our most recent novels and I smiled down at Erica. She knew people all too well in order to sweet talk them. It was most likely that this place was booked or not taking reservations and Erica somehow weaseled her way in here.

“Thank you,” I said to her and she reached up to me, pinching my cheek, before pushing me along with Erica up the stairs.

“I have to run to the store, but you have the place to yourselves. I’ll lock the door behind me.” Delores waved to us as she made her way to the front door.

“Wait, the whole place?” I asked Erica as we made our way up the stairs.

“Delores was actually supposed to be on vacation this week, but the mountains got too much snow, so she had to cancel. I found this place, but it said no reservations. I convinced Delores to let us stay for a few days for our honeymoon.”

“I knew it.” I laughed at her and leaned down to kiss her lips as we stopped in front of the door Delores told us was ours.

“It’s a suite.”

“I wouldn’t expect you to get anything else for our wedding night.” Erica giggled against my lips. I grabbed the keys from her hand and placed the bags inside the door, but turned back to her, picking her up, even though she was no longer in her wedding dress.

“Tradition, you know.” I shrugged with her in my arms and brought her over the threshold. The room was just as quaint as the house, a simple king-sized bed with a quilted comforter on top, a small desk in the corner stacked with books, and a large bay window with a balcony overlooking a garden.

“Wow,” I whispered as I sat Erica down on the bed. I walked over to the window and pulled the white drapes over it. The bright light of the day still shined in, but now no one would be able to see just how I was going to make Erica mine forever.

“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” I looked back at where Erica was still sitting on the bed. She was looking around the room, but my eyes only saw her, sitting there in her cut-off shorts with a blank tank top that contrasted against her skin.

“You’re gorgeous.”

My words brought her eyes to mine and the smile that framed her face had me taking one giant step to get back in her space. I kneeled down on the floor in front of her, grabbing her waist until she was flush against me. Her legs wrapped around me, locking me in place.

“Hello, husband.” Her words tickled against my lips before she kissed me. Erica’s arms wrapped around my neck, pulling my head down toward her. I nipped her lip and kneaded my fingers into her ass.

“Hello, wife.” I pulled away for just a second to get the words out, but she took that to her advantage, stripping off her shirt in front of me. There my wife sat, in nothing but shorts and a bra. “Damn, how did I get so lucky?”

“I’m pretty sure I’m the lucky one.”

She leaned in to kiss me again.

“Chase.” The sound of my name broke my reverie and that thought of getting her on her back to finally make her mine in every possible way.

“Peaches.” She giggled at her nickname, but pushed me back a little before holding my face in her hands.

“I wanted to ask you something.”

“Anything. It’s a yes.”

“You don’t even know what I’m going to ask.”

“Doesn’t matter.” I leaned in to kiss her again. “It’s a yes.”

I unbuttoned my shirt and shrugged it off, stopping any more words from coming from her mouth.
