Thinking about Law being in his element reminded me I had wanted to talk to him about going to one of his races. I still had no idea how to bring it up to him, though.

“I have something for you.” Law reached into the basket beside us and pulled out a long box. I knew what it was before he could even turn them around. I sat up and clapped my hands together.

“Sparklers!” I felt like a child, but I didn’t care.

Law took one out and lit it for me and then lit himself one. I leaned back into him and traced my name in the air. Law moved his around beside me and it felt so right. This was the moment.

“I want to go to a race with you.”

Law stilled around me and when his sparkler burned out with mine, he placed them on the ground beside us and pulled me into his arms. They wrapped around me tight, but he didn’t reply to my statement. We watched as the first set of fireworks went off and then another and then another. It was hours that had passed and a whole bottle of wine gone when I got the nerves to tell him again.

I turned around, straddling him, not caring who could look across the field and see us.

“I want to go to a race with you, Law.” I placed my hands on his face, so he wouldn’t be able to look away from me.

He closed his eyes and then opened them again. Fireworks went off behind me and they lit his eyes for me to finally see the fire that was burning in them. I could feel his cock grow between my legs. I hadn’t expected this kind of response from him.

“I never thought in my wildest dreams that you would ever ask to come to one of my races.” He closed his eyes again and leaned into my palms. He took in a deep breath and continued. “I’ve had a space ready for you on the bus since the first day I left New York.”

“You have?” My voice was barely a whisper and I felt myself shrink in Law’s arms as they engulfed me.

“I’ve wanted you to be in my life in every aspect.”

“Why didn’t you ask me before to come with you?” I questioned.

“I never wanted to push you. I never wanted to assume you wanted to be invested in racing, because it didn’t matter to me if you were or not. I would have had you either way, Anya.”

“I want to be there, Law.”

“Those are the best words I have ever heard.”

I laughed at him. “Better than when I first said I love you?”

“Better than that.” He pulled me in for a kiss before the finale of fireworks went off behind us. Like they were made for this very moment and not a soul around us knew the impact I had just made in our lives. The leap we had just taken to spend every day with each other.

I was going to see what Law’s life was really about and I couldn’t wait to get on the bus tomorrow morning to start our new adventure.
