I snapped my head back at Law’s command and the car moved forward a little. My knuckles wrapped around the steering wheel.

“Now put your foot on the gas and slowly ease into it.”

“Law,” I said his name with no reassurance that I could make it through this.

“You’re doing great, sugar. Just ease into it. Just like that.”

I placed my foot on the gas and drove forward a little.

“Now turn the wheel and see how that feels.”

I did as Law said and tried not to freak out when the mammoth of a truck turned with the wheel.

“There you go!”

Law cheered me on as I went five miles an hour in the parking lot, jerk stopping every now and again, but slowly driving across the lot.

“Park right here.”

I placed the car in park immediately and took the keys out of the ignition and then threw them at Law.

“I’m done!” I threw my hands in the air, praying I wouldn’t have to drive anymore today.

“You did great, sugar.” He leaned in for a kiss and then pulled back. “Now let’s go party.”

I jumped out of the driver’s seat and we swapped places, Law driving us out to the middle of nowhere. Like, farther out in the middle of nowhere than his track was. The driveway we turned down seemed at least two miles long, but when I saw the bonfire ahead of us, I knew we were where we were supposed to be.

“Where are we?”

“Tony’s.” Law jumped out of the truck and came around to my side to help me out. “He owns about forty acres of land out here, just for the hell of it. Perfect place for a party, though.”

I followed him through the crowds of people. Many slapped him on the back and congratulated him. A few people waved to me, but Law hadn’t stopped to introduce me to anyone, so I started to retreat into myself. I tightened my hold on Law’s arm and moved closer to him as we came up to the fire and were handed two beers then greeted by Tony himself.

“Anya!” Tony screamed my name and moved in for a hug, completely forgetting about Law. “Damn, am I happy to have you in this guy’s life. Fucking racing machine now!”

Tony clinked his glass against ours and then took a swig of the beer. I didn’t drink beer, so I held the bottle next to me as I watched Law catch up with another guy standing next to him. I was about a foot away from them, but the distance seemed to grow, so I walked around the fire, trying to people watch, easing myself into this situation.

“I’ve told you, I’m the worst with introductions.” Law came up behind me where I had found a table and placed my beer on it. “Not a fan?”

He pointed to the still full bottle.

“Wine, yes. Beer, no.”

“Noted.” A smile pulled across his face and he leaned down to kiss me. “Let me introduce you to some people.”

He pulled my hand and dragged me across the field, stopping to introduce me to different friends.

“This is Alex.” Law waved a hand at a man who stood across for him.

“Nice to meet you.” Alex held his hand out to me and I shook it.

“Anya.” The second I said my name, the whole game changed.

“Anya!” Alex screamed my name, just like Tony had, and then moved in for a hug. “It’s so good to finally meet you!”

Murmurs started to form around the party and soon it was everyone who could come over did.

“Where have you been hiding her?” A woman came up next to Law and slapped him on the shoulder.
