“Your driver?” I remembered Law having someone to drive us when he was first in New York, but I hadn’t questioned it then, but now, it just seemed silly to have a driver for one day.
“Yeah.” He turned toward me and kissed my nose. “It’s really a company driver, but we have a few set up in states where we have heavy business, just in case anyone needs a car on short notice.”
“Makes sense, but isn’t that expensive?” I questioned him. I knew he probably made good money, but a subway ride or a ride service was typically cheaper.
“It might be.” Law pushed my hair back and leaned in for a full kiss this time. “But it means I get to spend more time with you.”
“How so?” I laughed as Law’s arms wrapped around me and pulled me on top of him.
“Because my driver is only five minutes away, rather than waiting close to fifteen to twenty minutes for someone else to drive us.”
“Shouldn’t that mean we get dressed now?” I playfully asked and leaned down to nip at Law’s neck.
He lifted me in his arms and then tossed me back to the other side of the bed. I bounced on top of the mattress. Law slipped out of the bed and snagged his boxers before making his way to the bathroom.
“Get up, sugar.”
I lay there a few more moments thinking of how Law seemed so relaxed about what was happening. He said he wanted to spend more time with me, but yet he still showed up and is now leaving again, like he didn’t know the impact it was having on me. He had no idea I still had no drive to go back to the dance studio. In fact, I hadn’t told anyone that yet, but now that Law was here, the thoughts were coming on stronger. He had said it himself. He had wanted me to see him race. I wanted him to see me dance. We both couldn’t have what we wanted, but the more I thought about it, the more it stuck to me that I didn’t need to dance. I just needed Law.
“You going to get dressed?” Law said with a chuckle as he stood in the doorway dressed in the outfit he had shown up with last night.
I made quick haste to put on some jean shorts with a tank top and shoved my feet into some sneakers. I didn’t need to be fancy. Not for Law. We were past that.
“Ready!” I waved my hands up and down to show him I was all set for our adventure today. He just laughed and then walked over to pull me into his arms.
“You look gorgeous.” He leaned down to kiss the tip of my nose and then pulled me toward the front of the apartment. I grabbed for my bag and pulled out my keys, phone, and wallet, preparing myself for whatever we had in store for today.
When we exited the building and reached the curb a black car was waiting for us. I still had no idea how Law did it. How he lived this life and was still someone who was so down to earth. Someone who was standing next to a city girl in jeans, a shirt, and a baseball cap. He might have belonged here in some aspect, but in all, he felt like a country man.
I rattled off the address to the driver and waited for the ten-minute car ride to be over as we traveled the seven miles to our destination with Law holding my hand like if he didn’t I would vanish.
“Sir,” the driver said as we pulled up to the front of the shop. They were only open for another hour and with that would probably have very limited bagels left, but that also meant the line was almost nonexistent.
I hopped out of the car, with Law not far behind me as we got to the back of the line. Only five people away from being inside the shop.
“I wasn’t aware we would have to wait.” Law looked into the shop, seeing that there were more people inside.
“This is nothing actually. We’ll be in and out in fifteen minutes.” I pointed to the front door where two couples exited and the door handler let four more people in. “We’re almost inside.”
“People actually wait like this for food here?” Law asked in awe. He was shaking his head as people walked past us like nothing was wrong. A few people even got in line behind us to wait to get into the shop.
“This shop has some of the best bagels in New York. You clearly have never had a New York bagel.”
“I haven’t.” He held his hands up in the air in defense, but the smile on his face showed just how much he loved teasing me. I swatted at his chest and then turned around. “But I’m down to try anything if it’s with you.”
Law pulled me into his arms and placed a kiss onto the top of my head.
“Next!” the door handler yelled at us.
I looked up to see a huge group had left the shop and we were the next to go inside. I giggled and took Law’s hand, leading him inside of the bakery. The smell of dough hit your senses the moment you entered the building and made your mouth water with want. If I could just live inside of this building I would. My figure would hate me, but my stomach would be ecstatic.
Bread is For Lovers changed its menu every day, so once they were out of something they made sure to cross it out to make order a little easier.
“I’m going to get the chocolate chip bagel with cinnamon cream cheese,” I ordered to the first clerk. “You?”
Law was staring at the board with wide eyes. He looked like a deer caught in the headlights.
“I have no idea what to get.” Law finally spoke up and looked down at me with the same wide look.
