“Then we both fall.” He licked his lips. “This benefits us both, Anya. Even if you can’t see it yet.”

“You’re crazy,” I whispered. If it was to him or myself, I didn’t know, but I did know he heard me.

“I know.” A smirk formed on his face.

I took a deep breath to try to process what he was saying. He had said the word fall, he had said we would benefit each other. Looking into his eyes I could tell that he meant each word he said. There was no game here, just us.

And just us I could do.

“What did you have in mind?” I moved my body closer to Law’s, making sure to feel his whole body against mine. Law was telling me he was leaving in just a few days, but for some reason, that didn’t matter to me. This pull we had was something I’d never felt before and while he was still here, I couldn’t help but want to explore it.

“I wanted to take you on a proper date tomorrow. Dinner, a show, or a movie, whatever you wanted.” Law’s face was lit up like the Fourth of July as he rattled off.

“I can’t tomorrow night.” My answer crushed his spirit. The way his face fell and he started to pull away had me tightening my grip on him. I held him closer to my body. “I have a show tomorrow. Will you come?”

“You want me to watch you perform?” Law asked in surprise.

“You’ve already seen me dance tonight, so why not?” I giggled and met his eyes with mine. “Can I ask you something?”

“Shoot, sugar.”

I smiled at Law’s nickname for me. “Why are you in town?”

He let out an exasperated breath at my question. “I thought you were going to ask something much worse.”

I slapped his shoulder playfully.

“I’m here for press.”

I cocked my head to the side, not sure how a race car driver would need to travel to New York to do press.

“Start of the season interviews. I just got a new member to my race team and New York was my last stop before I head back home to continue racing.”

“How do you continue race season?”

Law chuckled at my question and I pulled out of his arms and crossed mine over my chest, waiting for his answer.

“When I get home I’ll be packing up for the next race. When I arrive in Texas on Wednesday, I’ll start practice races the next day and go into qualifiers for the poll and then it’s race day on Saturday. Sometimes it falls on Sunday, depending on the race. Once the race is over, then I get ready to travel to spend some time at home, then it’s on to my next destination and do it all over again the following weekend.”

“Do you have a lot of races?” If I thought Law’s face lit up before, now I was seeing something completely different. Everything about this man changed in a second as he rattled of about racing. The way his hands were working in sync with his words, the expression, talking with your hands, wasn’t enough to describe what I was seeing. This man was passionate about the sport he was in and I wanted to bask in his enthusiasm.

“Almost every weekend, but we were off for the holiday weekend, so my manager planned out some press between the races.”

“That doesn’t give you much of a break.”

Law took a step toward me and once again wrapped me in his arms. I tilted my head back to look up at him and Law tucked a piece of blond hair behind my ear. His fingers lingered against my cheek and I took in the sensation that flowed through my body.

“This right here is enough of a break for me.” It was like everything was happening in slow motion as Law lowered his head to mine. Like the kiss from last night had never happened and this was our first time all over again.

When his lips finally landed on mine it took all my strength not to launch myself at him like a starved woman. His lips lingered for merely a second before his tongue traced along my lower lip, begging me to open up. I opened not just my mouth to Law, but in that instant I opened up my heart. We devoured each other in the kiss, tongues fighting for the advantage and hands roaming over bodies.

My fingers played with the hem of Law’s shirt while he had one hand on my ass and the other in the middle of my back, pressing my body as close as he could to himself. I pulled my lips away from his but only to catch my breath, and Law’s mouth moved from my chin to my neck, with tantalizing licks and a few bites. The hand on my ass kneaded my cheek and fueled the growing need I felt between my legs.

“What about that date?” I asked breathlessly as Law’s lips made their way down to my collarbone. I was trying to prolong the inevitable.

“Me.” He kissed the top of my breast. “You.” He moved to kiss the other. “Tomorrow. At the ballet.” Law moved his head till he was finally eye to eye with me.

“What about tonight?” I bit my lip. I didn’t know how this went with a man you barely knew. Did you talk about the sex and if it was going to happen or did you just let it happen?
