“Absolutely.”

We quickly gathered the blankets and pillows and dumped them on the extra bed. Finn stripped to his underwear, pulled on a t-shirt and settled on the mattress. I pulled my skirt off and shrugged my blouse off my shoulders, glad I was one of those women who insisted on a matching bra and panties. He watched in full appreciation from his spot against the headboard, his cock tenting his boxer briefs.

“Should I continue?” I paused, my hands at the clasp of my bra.

“Not yet,” he shook his head, holding out his hand. “Come to me.”

I did as I was told, settling over his legs. “Before we keep going, I want to check in,” he continued.

“Okay…” I nestled against him, my fingers snaking under his shirt to scratch softly at the hair below his navel.

“I want to wait… for sex. Just a while longer. Can you give me that?”

I thought a moment. “Flyboy, if you can deliver more orgasms like what you just did out on the balcony, I’ll wait as long as you want.”

A laugh escaped his throat. “Deal.”

We cuddled a little longer, which turned into light touches and eventually petting as we mapped each other’s bodies with patient hands and curious mouths. Finn brought me to orgasm twice more before letting me take care of him, both of us taking our time with each other until we were completely spent and content.

I curled up against his side, having lost my underwear completely by this point, and pulled the covers over us.

“Alexandra?” His voice was drowsy in the dark stillness, the only other sounds coming from the crickets outside.

“Yes, Finnegan?” I giggled slightly, my arm curling around his waist as I anchored myself to him.

“I… love you.”

His admission hit me square in the chest, knocking the wind out of me. I felt him pull me tighter against his side. “You don’t have to say it back. I just wanted you to—”

“I love you too,” I whispered, my eyes pricking with tears as I said the words out loud. “I think I always have.”

“Likewise,” he kissed the top of my head and I tightened my grip around him. My champion. My Icarus. My Finn.

Chapter 36

Competence under pressure

Finn

I woke up to the sound of my phone vibrating on thenightstand and Alex’s warm weight against my side, her hand resting light on my chest. Last night came back in flashes—our competitive game winding each other up at dinner, how completely she’d surrendered when I finally took control, the sound of my name on her lips when she came apart under the stars.

More importantly, I woke feeling like myself. Steady. Strong. Ready for whatever the day might bring instead of calculating energy reserves and managing limitations.

I reached for my phone carefully, trying not to wake her, and opened the family chat.

Elowyn:Good morning, lovebirds. Hope you slept well after your... evening activities.

Elowyn:Had three separate guest complaints about “balcony noise” around 10 last night.

Mom:ELOWYN

Elowyn:What? I’m just reporting the facts, Ma.

Dad:Son you might want to remember you’re staying in a lodge with other guests.

Mom:NOLAN

Elowyn:One guest mentioned... very... victorious sounds.
