Finvarra’s face was scarily blank. He merely looked at Evie. “Speak.”
Evie gave him a cool look, and I raised one eyebrow. Her lady balls werebig.
“The guards got out of the car because they saw something. Something designed to make them all hallucinate. It could be that they all saw the same thing, or it could be because they saw something even more terrible—like their worst fears. Ilayda—”
“I don’t care.”
I studied him. “Excuse me?”
He gave me a dismissive glance then returned his attention to Evie. “I just watched the seelie king kill hundreds ofmypeople. Do you believe I will put any time or energy into understanding why one ofhiswas kidnapped?”
I gaped. Evie narrowed her eyes at him. “Hundreds of fae fought onourside too. Or are you forgetting that?”
He merely looked at her. She shook her head. “You’re a heartless son of a bitch.”
“And you seem to think you can step right into your sister’s shoes.”
I caught it. The flicker of uncertainty in Evie’s eyes. Immediately followed by grim resolve.
Like most paranormals, the dark fae king had been alive for long enough that healwaysknew exactly which button to press.
Kyla took a single step closer to Finvarra, and he looked down at her. Then she started peeing all over his shoes.
I gaped. Of all the things I’d expected her to do, that was not it. Snorts and laughter broke out among the human cops, and Finvarra raised his head, sweeping his gaze over them.
Silence.
He waved his hand, and his shoes were pristine once more. Then he studied Kyla, who showed him her teeth.
The message was clear. Talk shit about Evie wearing Danica’s shoes, and Kyla would show Finvarra exactly what she thought ofhisshoes.
Faster than I could ever have anticipated, his hand lashed out and caught the scruff of her neck.
“If you wish to act like an animal, I’ll treat you like one,” he purred.
She shifted to her human form.
Finvarra released her neck like she was on fire. Werewolves weren’t embarrassed by nudity. They were, after all, continually shifting. But I glanced around, watching as every single cop in the vicinity immediately averted their gaze.
Probably a good choice.
Finvarra kept his eyes on her face, and those eyes burned with a fury so deep and dark, if that look were directed at me, I would have turned and fled.
“Put some clothes on.” His voice was so cold, it seemed as if an ice cube were sliding down my spine.
No, that wasn’t just his voice. Finvarra had lowered the temperature with his fury. I let out a shaky breath, and the air I breathed out turned to fog.
Kyla merely smiled. “Brrr.” She shivered mockingly, and it was my turn to look away as her boobs bounced all over the place. Since my gaze was focused on Finvarra’s face, I caught the tiny flicker of his eyes down. A muscle ticked in his jaw.
“Clothes. Now.”
“I thought you wanted me human.”
“Don’t play with me, wolf.”
Her eyes still hadn’t turned back to their normal bright blue, and they were icy against her creamy brown skin. “Then don’t you dare disrespect my friends. People who arehelpingyou.”
They stared at each other for a long moment. My gaze met Evie’s, and she widened her eyes at me. Yeah, this shit was wild.
