I placed another ball down and waited for her. She stood where I had and swung. She missed the ball completely. With her second swing, she dug up some grass. I stood admiring her. Her third swing was also a miss. Sophai chucked the club down and folded her arms across her chest.
“I do not like this game!” She proclaimed.
Laughing softly, I walked closer. Picking up her club, I held it out for her as I spoke. “Let me help you. If you will let me?”
I tried standing next to her to show her how to hold it, pull up, and swing. But it didn’t work as planned. Moving in behind her, I decided to physically assist her. I moved her feet and shifted her hips so she could feel the movement.
Leaning over her, I placed my hands over hers to hold the club. Standing so close, I could smell her scent. It made my head float. It took me back to our first time. It felt like I was overheating suddenly.
I had to close my eyes, breathe in deeply, and try to clear my mind. Without a word, I gently pulled her arm up and swung at the ball. It lifted into the air and moved like a jet plane.
“We did it!” Sophia exclaimed. She turned and hugged me tightly. I enjoyed holding her.
We moved to the greens. Here I showed her how to use the putter. I was confident that she would find this part easier. After three tries, she seemed to have gotten the right move. The ball rolled graciously and dropped into the hole.
“Nicely done,” I complimented her as we moved to the next hole. Here she struggled again to get the ball off the ground. I got in behind her and held her hands on the club. Sophia glanced back at me. For a brief second, our lips were inches apart. I could feel her breath touching my lips.
We stood frozen in the moment. My heart raced, my pulse quickened, and I wanted nothing more than to kiss her soft lips.
Sophia cleared her throat, making me snap out of my trance. I helped her with her swing and stepped back. We had the same problem on the next two holes. On the greens, she got it, but at the starting point, she battled.
At hole five, she got it the first time. I watched as her ball flew into the air and landed on the green. She jumped up and down, screaming with excitement, before storming over to me and wrapping her arms around my neck. This time, I hugged her tightly. I wanted to hold her forever.
Realizing what she was doing, she stepped back swiftly. “Your turn,” she mumbled, her cheeks lighting up.
As we moved through the next two holes, her confidence grew. “I think I can win this game,” she said out of the blue.
“Oh, is that so?” I teased, pushing my hand through my hair. She was making my blood boil. But in a good way.
At the next hole, she missed again. “How is that possible?” she exclaimed. “I did exactly what you showed me.
“Your body was a little out of place,” I replied. “Stand again.”
I moved in behind her as she stood ready. Placing my hands on her hips, I turned them a bit. Then I leaned in and shifted the position of her hands. Touching her drove my mind up the walls. But I knew I had to keep myself in line.
The longer we played, the easier it became for her. Soon her muscles will remember. She was actually not bad once she started getting the hang of it. She developed an attitude with each successful hit. But I loved it.
She was feisty and no longer tried to keep her distance from me. She stood close behind me as I swung. Her hands brushed over my shoulder a couple of times as she leaned in to whisper that she was going to win.
Seeing how happy she was, I let her win. Once the game was over, she bounced around again. “See, I told you I’d win,” she said, pointing a finger at my chest.
Taking her hand, I kissed the top before replying. “I see, you were right. Let’s head back.” We handed in our gear and returned to the car. Before we got in, I noticed the ice cream stand. Behind it was a park.
Taking her hand, I led her to it. “What flavor?” I asked, looking at the variety on offer.
“Vanilla,” Sophia replied.
I bought two vanilla cones. Handing her one, I smiled. “Want to take a walk with me?” I asked, pointing at the park.
She nodded and walked past the stand to the park. “Thank you for joining me in a game of golf,” I said as we walked.
Sophia lightly bumped me as she replied. “I must thank you. You have made this day one of the best in my life.”
“I am glad you enjoyed it,” I replied softly.
She smiled at me, placing her hand on my arm. As we walked, I knew this day had brought us closer on a new level.
