I tried to believe Kai and trust Dr. Vlahos knew what the hell she was talking about. That her sleeping so much was normal, and her body needed the rest to heal, but the silence bothered me. I needed to hear her voice. I needed her to tell me she was okay. That was why I flew back earlier than I intended to. There was shit I still needed to finish in Greece, but Dorian could wait. Seraphina couldn’t.
“We’re almost there, boss,” Finley said.
“You heard from, Kai?” I pulled my phone from inside the pocket of my blazer. “I tried calling him to let him know we were on the way, but he didn’t answer.”
“No. He’s not answering me either.”
I nod then looked at the caller id on my phone as it rung. “Sergio,” I answered, even though I didn’t recognize the number.
Chaos bled through the line. Furniture crashing, muffled shouting, followed by something heavy hitting the floor.
My heart seized inside my chest. “What the fuck?”
Dread and panic hit me.
Had Dorian found her?
“Hello! Hello! Seraphina!” I shouted, my voice raw from how loud I was screaming.
“What the fuck!” Finley said, from the driver’s seat. “Sergio? What’s happening!”
I looked at him, and his face was filled with concern. But I couldn’t tell him what was happening because I didn’t know.
A scream echoed through the line, then a gunshot.
“Seraphina!” I screamed.
But I heard nothing. Just silence.
And I stopped breathing.
Chapter Sixteen
Seraphina
I giggle as Sergio pulls me onto his lap. I straddle him as he trails kisses up my neck. “You’re drunk,” he says into the crook of my neck, sucking my flesh into his mouth.
He loves marking my skin with hickies to show the world that I’m his.
“Maybe.” I sway a little. “They didn’t even card me.”
I’m not twenty-one yet, but being with a Puglisi, age didn’t matter because I was served drink after drink. And I didn’t turn down one until Sergio put a stop to it. We’re here to have fun, and I’m going to enjoy his birthday.
I moan, my head falling forward, resting against his shoulder as he squeezes my ass moving me against his hardening length.
We just got back from clubbing, celebrating his twenty-first birthday. I’ve never been to Vegas before. I’ve done a lot of firsts with Sergio. However, I wish we could have celebrated alone. But of course, Sergio wanted Finley and Kai to be here with us. I understand or at least I try to understand where he’s coming from since his relationships with his brothers are non-existent. Finley and Kai are his closest friends, so I don’t complain when he brings them along with us. I just would have loved for us to have a moment to ourselves.
My lust induced moment with Sergio is shattered when Finley’s groan echoes from behind me. Finley found some random girl at one of the clubs and brought her back to the penthouse suite. Kai is alone. Like always. All he does is sit back and watch like a fucking creep.
Like I said, not one moment alone.
“Let’s take this to the room,” I whisper in Sergio’s ear, then run my tongue along the shell.
I want to be alone and away from his friends.
Sergio shivers. When I pull back, fire is blazing in his eyes, and Sergio’s bottom lip is clenched between his teeth. All I see are the promises to come. He scoops me up so fast, I yelp and can’t stop laughing as he tosses me over his shoulder, pops me on the ass, while heading down the hallway.
Despite the haze of intoxication and desire, I don’t miss feeling watched. When I glance up, Kai’s glare is locked on me, sharp and unrelenting, like he could kill me with just his look. His eyes stay fixed on us—on me until the living room disappears from view.
