CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
Blak looked over at Averi.“You sure you want to meet my people? My aunt is cool, but her sons are a little bit retarded.” Averi had already met his mother and had gotten her stamp of approval.
Even though Tasha and his uncle were no longer a couple, he loved his aunt, and her opinion mattered to him as well. She had a family dinner once a month for Blak and her sons, and he had invited Averi. His statement about his cousins made her grin.
“They can’t be worse than you. If they are I just might run for the hills.”
Blak drew back. “What you mean worse than me? What’s wrong with me?”
“A lot.” Averi eased out of bed, so she could take a shower. Her stomach had the slightest pudge. She considered herself to be showing, but the bump wasn’t hard to hide at all. Even if she wore skintight clothing one might assume she was bloated before thinking she was pregnant.
Averi had three more weeks before she could find out the sex, and she was elated. She had been so worried about losing the baby, that she didn’t even let herself get comfortable with wishing for a girl or a boy. All she wanted was a healthy baby. The gender didn’t matter at all. To her surprise, Blak wanted a girl. He said since Unique’s mother passed away, he wanted his child and her to be raised to be super close.
While Averi showered, Blak looked over some sample contracts. There was a wealth of information on the internet, and he was going to learn as much as he could about having a sports management company. He was plugged in with Brazil and Lethal, but he needed to know what he was doing so other athletes could hit him up. Blak was really going legit. He was going to hire an entertainment attorney, but he still wanted to learn the ins and outs of business, and that included knowing contracts.
He got lost in researching and before he knew it, she was out of the shower and dressed. Blak knew he had to get ready, so he put his phone down and walked past Averi to enter the bathroom. She smelled so good and looked even better in the dark denim wide leg jeans she was rocking with a sleeveless body suit. The pants were high waist, so they camouflaged her belly just a bit. There was no hiding the womanly curves that her pregnancy had enhanced, and Blak wanted a piece of the pie. He knew if he was late for dinner that his aunt would curse him out, so he resisted the urge to bend her over.
Once he was dressed, he found Averi in the living room eating beef jerky. “Come on fat ass. Let’s go feed my baby.”
When she rolled her eyes and stood up, Blak’s heart swelled. He loved Averi, and he loved the fact that she was carrying his child. He still thought of Naomi every day and wished she was still alive, but that didn’t change the fact that he ended up with the person that he wanted to be with. Averi stood and grabbed her purse. On her way out the door, Blak smacked her on the behind.
“I told you about hitting me all hard,” she pouted.
“I’ll kiss it later.” Blak licked his lips as he eyed her round bottom. One great thing about Averi’s pregnancy was the hormones made her horny as hell. She wanted dick every day and would damn near cry if he didn’t give it to her. Blak was in heaven.
As soon as they got in the car, her mother called to check on her. Even before Averi got pregnant, she talked to her mother every day but since she got shot and she was pregnant, her mother called at least three times a day. Averi wouldn’t have it any other way. She loved her mother so much, and she would talk to her a hundred times a day if that would make her mom happy.
Bak didn’t live far from his aunt, so they arrived in what seemed like no time. Averi remained seated as she closed out the conversation with her mother. Blak walked around and opened the door for her. When he entered Tasha’s house, everyone was already in the kitchen. He spotted Symphony and hoped that things would go smoothly. There were times when Monique got on his last nerve, but he didn’t wish death on anybody. He also regretted slapping her. He was just on some other shit, and his temper was bad as fuck.
He introduced Averi to everyone, and they took a seat. Blak noticed that Unique was asleep in her swing which was perched on the kitchen island. “Let me and my girl watch Unique for a day,” he directed at Brazil. “We need the practice.”
Brazil’s brow hiked. “Your girl definitely has to be there because me trusting you with my baby alone, hell nah.”
With a frown, Blak kissed his teeth. “What’s wrong with me?”
“You know how to change a diaper? How to burp a baby? Do you even know how to hold a baby?”
“Nigga did you before you found out you had a kid? I said I wanted to learn.”
“My baby isn’t a practice dummy. But if Averi is there to supervise you, you can get her whenever you want. She’s over there sleeping peacefully now, but she was smiling and laughing at four in the morning like it was time to party and not sleep.”
“I told you, she can stay with me at night,” Tasha offered.
“I know, but she’s with me and Giavanna the most. I don’t want her to always be around different people. I want to get the hang of this daddy thing.”
There was no mistaking the proud look on Tasha’s face. “Lethal,” she glared at him, and he shook his head.
“Nope. No one has called me and told me they missed a period, so I’m starting to think I was tripping. I can’t have a baby on the way.”
Brazil snorted. “You might not find out until after the baby is born. Did you learn nothing from me?”
Lethal groaned. “Man, I don’t have anybody pregnant. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.”
“If I have another grandbaby out there, I for sure want to know. I don’t know why these heifers are keeping kids a secret. Let a man know if he has a child on the way.”
“Man,” Lethal drawled. He wanted the subject changed. Of course, if he found out about a child he’d step up to the plate, but he wasn’t quite ready. Brazil’s life had changed in the blink of an eye. He admired his brother for doing what needed to be done, but he wasn’t ready to take that challenge on himself. He had been scared straight however, because fuck using condoms. He was barely having sex at all.
The subject of Lethal having a baby on the way was dropped. Averi didn’t feel out of place at the dinner, and she was glad that everything was going smoothly. She noticed Symphony was on the quiet side, but she wasn’t standoffish or stuck up. When dinner ended and everyone left the kitchen, Blak walked over to Symphony.
