“I know, but they have a reputation to uphold. Surely they wouldn’t use a contract to screw any of their models over.”
“I don’t think they would, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I wouldn’t sign it without getting the all clear from a solicitor. I can read it until the cows come home, but I’m not an expert.” I squeezed him gently. “I’ll cover the cost. It won’t be much. It’ll take her an hour to read it. At most.”
Jae nodded. “Okay.”
I slipped my phone out of my pocket and took pictures of each page. When I was done, I uploaded them to my laptop, zipped them into a single file, and sent them via email to my solicitor.
“My heart’s all fluttery,” Jae said once I hit Send.
“Excited?”
“Yes,” he squeaked. “It’s happening. I’m getting signed. Assuming your solicitor gives the contract the thumbs up.”
I wrapped my arms around Jae’s waist. “I’m sure she will. I’m thrilled for you. I know getting signed by McKay’s is a dream come true for you.”
“It is.” Jae sighed. “I keep pinching myself. I can’t quite believe it’s happening. I don’t think I’ll believe it until I’m back in the office, actually signing the contract.” He stamped his feet on the carpet. “I told myself it could take months, maybe even years, to get signed. I didn’t think I’d get snapped up at my fourth open call.”
“I did.”
Jae turned and put his arms around my neck. “Thank you for believing in me.”
“I always will.”
Jae pecked my lips. “Getting together with you, being chosen by McKay’s Models, could this trip to London have been more amazing?”
“I don’t think so. Although there is one thing we haven’t done.”
“What’s that?”
“Gone to that Korean restaurant I told you about. Let me take you there to celebrate after you’ve signed the contract.”
“Okay.” Jae settled against my chest again. “Can we play a game?”
“Sure. What?”
“It’s called ‘where do you see us…?’”
“Okay.”
“Where do you see us one month from now?”
I took a deep breath. “Here. Happy. We’ll go to Leeds together so you can introduce me to your parents.”
Jae giggled. “They’ve already met you about a gazillion times.”
“As your best friend’s brother, not as your boyfriend.”
“True.”
“We’ll hire a van to bring your things here. We’ll have to buy a new wardrobe first.”
“Only one?”
“I’m not sure we can fit two more wardrobes in our bedroom. We might be looking for a new place to live, with either a third bedroom or a walk-in wardrobe.”
Jae gasped. “A walk-in wardrobe? Oh, that would be heavenly.”
“We’ll convince Dillon to move down here, so neither of us has to miss him.”
