“Ta-da!” I said as Jae stood beside me on the top step.

“Wow.”

I’d transformed the living room and TV stand into a circus tent blanket fort with twinkling fairy lights, dozens of cushions, and a snuggly blanket. There was a tray of finger food on the coffee table and an ice bucket with an open bottle of champagne.

“This is amazing!” Jae turned to me and flung his free arm around me. He kissed me hard. “You are amazing.”

“So you keep saying.”

“Seriously. I think you’ve won the boyfriend of the year award about a million times over.”

“With one blanket fort?”

“No, silly. With everything you’ve done for me from the moment you met me at King’s Cross station.”

“We weren’t boyfriends then.”

He sighed. “No. Why not?” His lips quivered. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted in a boyfriend. You’re my fairy-tale prince.”

My heart did a loop-the-loop. “What does that make you?”

“Duh. Your fairy-tale princess, of course.” He stole another strawberry and ate it whole. “These are so good.”

“I dipped them in chocolate myself.”

“See? You’re perfect.”

“I thought you said no one was perfect.”

“I take it back. You’re the benchmark for perfect.”

I brushed my lips over his. “No, you are.”

He rubbed his nose against mine. “You.”

I pecked his lips. “You.”

“We’re being nauseatingly cutesy, aren’t we?” Jae asked.

“Just a little. Do you care?”

“Not one bit.”

I brushed my fingers through his wavy hair. “Get into your pyjamas. I’ll be back in a minute.”

I’d found them on the sofa when I’d put the blanket fort up, so I’d folded them neatly and put them somewhere he would find them easily.

“Okay.”

I put my champagne glass and the plate of strawberries on the breakfast bar before jogging to my bedroom to change into a T-shirt and clean boxer shorts. I didn’t own pyjamas.

By the time I got back to the living area, Jae was in his adorable panda pyjamas and sitting in the blanket fort, sipping his champagne. His legs were crossed, and he had the plate of strawberries balanced on his lap.

“Nice pyjamas.” He grinned cheekily. “Now I know what to get you for Christmas.”

“And what do you want for Christmas?” I asked, joining him.

He popped a strawberry half into my mouth. “You.”
