“What?”

“What else can you see in your future?”

Stefan’s cheeks pink ever so slightly. “You.”

My heart skips, and for a moment, I forget to breathe. My feet slip off the footrest.

“You okay?”

Not trusting myself to speak, I nod and lift one finger. He waits like he always does, and I love him for it.

I set my feet back on the footrest as soon as I’m able to. “What else?”

“Does there need to be anything else?”

I shrug. “I guess not.”

He tilts his head. “Do you want kids?”

My eyes widen. “Where did that come from?”

“Your stepmum asked me if I wanted kids, but I don’t know what your thoughts are.”

I rub the back of my neck. “I think it’s a bit early to be talking about stuff like that, isn’t it?”

“Is it?”

I suck in a breath. “No.”

“No, you haven’t thought about it or—”

“No, I don’t want kids.” I watch him closely, but he doesn’t seem fazed by my admission. “I’m on board with getting a dog, though. One day.”

“Have you ever had a dog?”

“No. Have you?”

He shakes his head. “We had goldfish.”

“We’ll have a lot of research to do.”

“I know.” Stefan smiles. “We can do it together when the time comes. Your turn.”

“My turn?”

“Tell me what makes you happy.”

“I think you already know. Drawing, playing chess.” I glance up and meet his stare. “Kissing you.”

“Only kissing me?”

“Making love to you.” I lower my chin and my voice. “Playing with you.”

“Is that a hint?”

“Not for today, but yeah, I’d like to do another scene soon. If you want to.”

“Of course, I want to.”
